Manchester United could well be set to do a second summer deal with Benfica, as goalkeeper Joel Pereira is wanted by the Lisbon giants, according to The Mirror.
The Red Devils have confirmed their first major signing of the off-season, with Swedish defender Victor Lindelof leaving the Estadio da Luz to move to Old Trafford.
However, the latest report suggests that Pereira is wanted in his homeland and that Benfica lead the chase for the impressive 20-year-old.
The Portuguese side have this summer sold their goalkeeper Ederson to Manchester City and as such are in the market for a replacement.
The report also suggests that domestic rivals Porto and Sporting Lisbon are also keeping tabs on the United starlet, who is being tipped to have a bright future in the game.
Pereira has been on the Red Devils’ books since 2012 and has been given the chance to make a handful of first-team appearances over recent years.
However, with David de Gea and Sergio Romero ahead of him in the United pecking order, the 20-year-old will surely be considering exactly where his future lies.
Pereira’s contract expires next summer and as such the Red Devils will need to make a decision about whether they see him in their future plans before he becomes a free agent in 12 months’ time.
The Portuguese stopper has spent time on loan at Rochdale in 2015 and impressed for Belenenses while on a similar deal last season.
Pereira has represented his nation throughout the youth gradings and is currently a member of the Portugal under-21 squad.
Mourinho is believed to rate his countryman highly and as such a loan move to Benfica could well be the best solution for all parties.
