It felt like there was a lot to think about going into this game – City had lost at Southampton; United were off to Madrid a few days after; and United had dropped points in this fixture last year, leading to the title slipping away. This had the feelings of being a game that was that bit more crucial than some of the others lately. Everton too would want to win after Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea all did but they suffered a huge blow in the warm-up as Distin, who’s having a superb season, pulled out with an injury. As ever, we welcome comments from both sets of fans.

It’s not that Everton are a ‘bogey side’ for United but the last two games against them have been unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. Moyes’ men are having another very solid season and are unquestionably the best side on Merseyside right now. With United travelling to Madrid in a few days this game has a dangerous look about it as Fergie may be tempted to leave a couple of players out. As ever, we welcome comments and opinions from both sets of fans.

United travelled the short distance to Merseyside to take on Everton in the final game of the opening round of Premier League fixtures. Shinji Kagawa made his debut but Van Persie was only deemed fit enough for the bench. United had to start with Carrick in defence as Rio Ferdinand became the fourth centre back to miss out through injury. Everton, in front of their home fans played Fellaini up high as the supporting act for Jelavic.

Danny Welbeck versus Everton

Manchester United travel to Everton on Monday for the 185th meeting of the two sides (in all competitions). Manchester United won the fixture 1-0 last term, with a goal from United forward Javier Hernandez. Everton fought back from two goals down to draw level at Old Trafford in an extremely entertaining 4-4 draw, which saw United lose their edge in the title race with Manchester City. Here we preview the first game of the Premier League season for both sides. If you are interested in getting down the bookies, United are favourites to win the game.

The signing of Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra secured a much sought after young talent for the club. Having only recently turned 18, Powell’s already racked up an impressive 64 competitive appearances and stands at over 6ft tall. In what’s a very global market, United are still looking close to home when it comes to signing players. The capture of Powell confirms United’s commitment to trying to buy English.

Wayne Rooney becomes United's 4th top goalscorer

Wayne Rooney is now 4th in the all time Manchester United goalscoring charts following his brace against Everton in the 4-4 draw today. He is now behind Jack Rowley, Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton respectfully. He overtook United legends George Best and Dennis Viollett. Rooney still has way to go to match the 249 goals notched up by Sir Bobby, however he could well catch Jack Rowley next season – who has 211 goals.

Therefore, we’re trying something new – a weekly column looking at a few learnings and observations from the weekend’s football and not necessarily just in England. Danny Welbeck versus Everton

Author: Stretford_End

Manchester United notched up their second clean sheet away from home in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Everton. Javier Hernandez scored the only goal of the game, as he did in the victory over Everton last April, following a superb cross from Evra on the left hand side. Sir Alex Ferguson made a number of changes following the 6-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City last weekend.

Here we discuss the talking points of Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Everton.
