Everton vs. Manchester United: Moyes, Barkley and Europe
Danny Welbeck versus Everton
Manchester United are nine point off Everton, who have played a game more.

Manchester United travel to Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday, in what will be the 188th clash between the two clubs. Everton have four games remaining to try and beat Arsenal to fourth spot, whilst Manchester United’s season duly ended earlier in the month when the club went out 4-2 on aggregate to the reigning European Champions Bayern Munich.

David Moyes was ridiculed by the Everton supporters in the 1-0 defeat back in December, which obviously riled up the United boss as he has spoken recently about demanding more respect from the Goodison crowd. In the last five games at Everton, United have only won a single match back in the 2011/12 season, although United’s form on the road has been much better than at home this term.

Manchester United hadn’t even signed Eric Cantona the last time Everton were last victorious in the league at Old Trafford. The Yugoslav Preki danced a merry dance around the helpless Peter Schmeichel to give the visitors a 3-0 win. United went onto lift the league title that season, the first time in 26 long years. It is looking highly unlikely that United will be retaining the title come May, as David Moyes’ men find themselves closer to the relegation zone than to the top of the table.

Bryan Oviedo, who was filling in for Leighton Baines – a summer transfer target for the home side, scored the only goal of the game to push Everton up to fourth place, whilst United linger in tenth position. United were unlucky not to hit the back of the net after Tim Howard saved from Patrice Evra’s header and Danny Welbeck hit the bar.

Here we discuss the talking points of the game and welcome feedback from both sets of fans.

Phil Neville is set to be announced as Manchester United’s new coach as David Moyes adds to his back room staff. Neville was bought by David Moyes in the summer of 2005 from Manchester United and made his debut against Sir Alex Ferguson’s men in the August, losing two nil. He made 386 appearances for United since his debut against Wrexham in the FA Cup back in 94/95 season. Neville is in 34th position of all time United appearances.

United’s most decorated player Ryan Giggs, has also been appointed player coach for the new season.

It felt like there was a lot to think about going into this game – City had lost at Southampton; United were off to Madrid a few days after; and United had dropped points in this fixture last year, leading to the title slipping away. This had the feelings of being a game that was that bit more crucial than some of the others lately. Everton too would want to win after Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea all did but they suffered a huge blow in the warm-up as Distin, who’s having a superb season, pulled out with an injury. As ever, we welcome comments from both sets of fans.

It’s not that Everton are a ‘bogey side’ for United but the last two games against them have been unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. Moyes’ men are having another very solid season and are unquestionably the best side on Merseyside right now. With United travelling to Madrid in a few days this game has a dangerous look about it as Fergie may be tempted to leave a couple of players out. As ever, we welcome comments and opinions from both sets of fans.

United travelled the short distance to Merseyside to take on Everton in the final game of the opening round of Premier League fixtures. Shinji Kagawa made his debut but Van Persie was only deemed fit enough for the bench. United had to start with Carrick in defence as Rio Ferdinand became the fourth centre back to miss out through injury. Everton, in front of their home fans played Fellaini up high as the supporting act for Jelavic.

Danny Welbeck versus Everton

Manchester United travel to Everton on Monday for the 185th meeting of the two sides (in all competitions). Manchester United won the fixture 1-0 last term, with a goal from United forward Javier Hernandez. Everton fought back from two goals down to draw level at Old Trafford in an extremely entertaining 4-4 draw, which saw United lose their edge in the title race with Manchester City. Here we preview the first game of the Premier League season for both sides. If you are interested in getting down the bookies, United are favourites to win the game.

The signing of Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra secured a much sought after young talent for the club. Having only recently turned 18, Powell’s already racked up an impressive 64 competitive appearances and stands at over 6ft tall. In what’s a very global market, United are still looking close to home when it comes to signing players. The capture of Powell confirms United’s commitment to trying to buy English.
