Who do you see as van der Sar’s replacement?

van der Sar

Edwin van der Sar has been a colossus player for Manchester United since signing from Fulham five years ago.  Sir Alex Ferguson has publicly acknowledged the difficulty in replacing Peter Schmeichel, after the Danish keeper left for Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 1999, and conceded that United should have since the Dutchman then.  The former Ajax man signed for Juventus  the day before Sir Alex made contact in 99 and United had to settle on Mark Bosnich, who was available on a free transfer.   Eric Steele believes that the Dutchman will hang up his gloves at the end of the season – but who do you think could replace him?

Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur Match Preview

Nani

For the first time this season United face one of their fellow English Champions League representatives. New to the ‘big four’ Spurs have so far balanced European football with Premier League football well and this will be a tough challenge for United. I expect all eyes will be on three players in particular – Chicharito, Bale and Van der Vaart. Spurs’s have a bad record at Old Trafford though and we’ll all be hoping that tomorrow’s game follows that same path.

29 October 2010 | Stretty Stories

I am happy to announce Stretty Stories is back from hiatus. With the Wayne Rooney saga dominating headlines in recent times, there has not been a lot of other news coming from Old Trafford. Instead of crunching all the Rooney updates into small Stretty Stories recaps, our writers instead gave it full-length posts. However, with things hopefully back to normal at the club, the Stretty Rant will get back to business as usual, particularly regular Stretty Stories posts. So without further ado, I give you today’s news…

MUFC buy Nobby’s medals; Stretford-End.com reaction

MUFC buy Nobby's medals; Stretford-End.com reaction

Days after CNN and BBC publicised Stretford-End.com’s letter to Wayne Rooney, we are delighted to announce that another high profile campaign started by the website has ended with the right result after Manchester United bought Nobby Stile’s medals at auction today.

Scores of our Twitter followers bombarded Rio Ferdinand and other media sources with our blog on the subject, and it seems the club listened to the outrage of supporters by purchasing his World Cup and European Cup winners medals at Convery Auctions in Edinburgh.

It is expected that the club will display the medals at the Old Trafford museum.

Stretford-End.com expresses its delight at the news.

Manchester United 3-2 Wolves Match Report

Bebe scored his first goal for the club and Chicharito continued his elevation to hero status with a winner from the bench as holders Manchester United progressed to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup. Both of Wolves’ full backs had brought the visitors level in front of a jaw dropping attendance (for all the wrong reasons), either side of a Ji Sung Park goal, but it was the small Mexican who added to his ever growing reputation.

Manchester United vs. Wolves Match Preview

Welbeck

United’s defence of the Carling Cup continues with a home tie against Wolves in the fourth round. United are expected to name an entirely different starting XI to the team that finally won away from home at Stoke on Sunday. Wolves have had to beat Southend and Notts County to get this far so will expect a far tougher test at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Stoke City 1-2 Manchester United

Stoke City 1-2 Manchester United

It was a case of Chicharito at the double as Manchester United finally exorcised their early season demons, rid themselves of their “Hyde” and finally got back to being Jekyll with a trademark last gasp winner at Stoke City. The Mexican striker scored in the first half then struck with just a few minutes left to snatch all three points after Tuncay had levelled for the hosts.

A tumultuous week at Old Trafford that started with an all too familiar surrender of points and featured the Wayne Rooney bombshell ended with the more conventional unconventional 85th minute at the Britannia. Days after speculating that it would take a shake up of epic proportions – the like of which we witnessed this past 7 days – there is a real belief that the late, late winner could prove to be a turning point in United’s season.
