Stretford-End XI: Strikers

Cantona
Today is the final poll for the Stretford-End XI. To complete our 4-4-2 we of course need to select two strikers. As with the recent polls, there will be two votes per person. The striker candidates are Jack Rowley, Dennis Viollet, Denis Law, Mark Hughes, Eric Cantona, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Wayne Rooney.

While this is the final poll, we will continue to accept votes until 24 December 00:00 GMT. You may vote for any of the position until then. The previous positions are Goalkeeper, Right Back, Left Back, Centre Backs, Centre Midfielders, and Wingers. If you haven’t voted for these positions yet, be sure to do so before the voting ends.

Stretford-End XI: Wingers

Posted on December 20, 2010  by KDill_MUFC  in Fun, KDill_MUFC, Man United, Players, Stretford-End XI   2 Comments »

Giggs and Ronaldo
This is likely to be the most hotly contested position in our Stretford-End XI. Yesterday we launched our poll for two centre midfielders, and today our focus is on selecting two wingers. The contenders include two European Player of the Year winners, the longest-serving player in Manchester United history, and arguably the biggest name in football history. So without further ado, the choices for the two wingers are Joe Spence, George Best, Andrei Kanchelskis, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ryan Giggs.

Roy Keane
The Stretford-End XI switches it’s attention to midfield today, but it’s still not too late to vote for the goalkeeper and defenders. We will be accepting votes for all positions until 00:00GMT on 24 December. The first midfield position we will be voting for is centre midfield. Like the centre backs poll, there will be two votes per person and the top two candidates will be included in the Stretford-End XI. The choices for centre midfield are Duncan Edwards, Sir Bobby Charlton, Paddy Crerand, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, and Paul Scholes.

Rio and Vidic

Today we complete the defence of the Stretford-End XI with our centre backs poll. Since there are obviously two centre backs in a 4-4-2, there will be two votes per person. Today’s contenders are Bill Foulkes, Martin Buchan, Steve Bruce, Garry Pallister, Jaap Stam, Rio Ferdinand, and Nemanja Vidic. The top two players will be included in our Stretford-End XI.

Evra
Peter Schmeichel and Gary Neville have each claimed a place in the Stretford-End XI, and now we turn our attentions to the other fullback back position. Each of our three candidates has played during a significant period in the club’s history. The choices for left back are Arthur Albiston, Denis Irwin, and Patrice Evra.

Stretford-End XI: Right Back

Gary Neville
Yesterday we polled our readers for the best United goalkeeper of all time, and now we turn our attentions to the right back position for the Stretford-End XI. The four right back candidates for the Stretford-End XI are Viv Anderson, Paul Parker, Gary Neville, and Wes Brown. Some readers have called for Bill Foulkes and Denis Irwin to be included in this poll. However, Foulkes will be a contender in his favoured centre back position and Irwin will be a candidate in the left back poll.

Van der Sar
I am pleased to announce we will be hosting a Stretford-End XI for a bit of fun during the holiday season. Each day we will have a poll to determine who you believe the best Manchester United player is for each position, and at the end we will list the Stretford-End XI picked by you the readers. Today we’ll be starting with goalkeepers. Each of our three candidates is highly qualified, all having won a European title with United. Of course those three are Alex Stepney, Peter Schmeichel, and Edwin van der Sar.
