Southampton 1-2 Manchester United Talking Points

Hernandez scored for United

In the past six years, United have now traveled to St Mary’s three times to face Southampton in the FA Cup. On the two previous occasions (in 04/05, 08/09) United won handsomely; 4-0 and 3-0 respectively. However, last night United made it hard work for themselves in booking their place in the 5th round. A second string side, a rare tactical blunder by Fergie and the inclusion of some players that are getting a little bit of stick a the moment all contributed to the poor showing in the first half. The second half, after the inclusion of Giggs and Nani, was much better – with Michael Owen and Javier Hernandez getting on the scoresheet.

United vs. Southampton
Manchester United will travel to Southampton on Saturday to continue their FA Cup campaign. United have officially made it one round further in the FA Cup than they did last season. Everyone will of course remember last season’s heartbreaking exit in the third round against Leeds United. However, a win over Liverpool at Old Trafford means United is now onto the fourth round.

Owen Hargreaves

As the transfer window draws towards a close, United have only made minor moves in brining in a new back-up goalkeeper. This summer is likely to bring a fair few changes to the squad personnel at the club. We’ve invited Herzog’s Child to share his thoughts on why this is a good time for the club to move on and welcome a new era; starting with the likely departure of Owen Hargreaves…

Blackpool 2-3 Manchester United Talking Points

Blackpool 2-3 Manchester United Talking Points

United celebrate

The last time the two sides met in the top flight was way back in the 1970/71 season, when the score finished 1-1. Denis Law was the scorer that day, in what turned out to be the penultimate match of the season, which didn’t really mean much to either side. Blackpool were already doomed to relegation and United finished in 8th spot, trailing league champions Arsenal by 22 points. Fast forward forty years and you will have witnessed one of the most entertaining matches of the whole season. Blackpool took a two goal lead before Manchester United fought back in typical Ferguson style to rescue all three points. As usual we assess the talking points below.

United vs. West Hame
One would think Manchester United is capable of taking all three points from the newly-promoted Blackpool, yet that away curse still looms large ahead of United’s journey to Bloomfield Road. Most were shocked when Blackpool earned promotion in the Championship play-off last season, and now they’re exceeding expectations in the Premier League. The Seasiders are currently 11th in the table, six points out of the relegation zone.

Manchester United 5-0 Birmingham City Talking Points

Manchester United 5-0 Birmingham City Talking Points

Berbatov and Giggs

The last Birmingham City player to score at Old Trafford in a league match was Frank Worthington back in the 1981/82 season, therefore it was no surprise to see United run out emphatic winners yesterday. United drew 1-1 at St Andrews in the last game of 2011 following a last minute strike from Lee Bowyer after Dimitar Berbatov gave United the lead. Another Berbatov hat-trick, two more Rooney assists (taking him to ten for the whole season) and a wonderful goal involving Berbatov, Rooney and Giggs. Here we assess the ‘talking points’ from the game and welcome any comments from both United and Birmingham City fans.

Ace in the Title Race…?

Posted on January 22, 2011  by Bricki  in Bricki, Man United, Players   4 Comments »

With the way the league campaign is panning out for all sides, plenty of defeats (or in our case, draws) it looks like the smallest margins could the difference in the Title race.

The forgotten man of the Manchester United squad could be the swing that brings us our 19th Title.

I’m talking about Antonio Valencia.

Since his signing from Wigan in June 2009 he has become an important player in the squad and offered ‘Old School’ wingplay not seen since the mid 90s and Kanchelskis/Giggs.
