Although he left United over half a year ago, Paul Pogba remains a constant topic of discussion for fans. Since his switch to Juventus, he’s been very polite about his time in Manchester when doing interviews with the Italian press. It was then surprising to read his first full feature interview with The Times on Friday night and discover a cockiness and arrogance that has previously only been talked about by those who’ve been lucky enough to get close to United.

Having kept relatively quiet about Pogba since his move, it feels like it’s time to spell out a few home truths in light of what he said and what some fans think.

Watching a team made up of locally produced players and/or those who’ve come through the Academy after joining as a teenager is a joy and a privilege. Too often these days, fans of the top teams in England and abroad are denied such a pleasure for various reasons. Balancing the expectations and need to achieve today with building for the future and player production is hard to get right. So hard, that some clubs can be accused of not caring about the latter. Fortunately at United, and under Alex Ferguson, that is not the case.

Nick Powell has been tipped for Manchester United success by Darren Fletcher

Nick Powell, Manchester United’s summer signing from Crewe Alexandra, has been praised by teammate Darren Fletcher following an impressive performance away in Turkey against Galatasaray. United lost the game 1-0, however Powell’s quick feet and range of passing was on show for all to see. Many Reds have suggested that United are crying out for centre midfielder and Powell could very well be that player if nurtured right. The youngster scored on his debut in the 4-0 victory over Wigan earlier this season.

United once had a very healthy partnership with Royal Antwerp FC. Players such as Darron Gibson, John O’Shea, Fraizer Campbell, Jonny Evans, Danny Simspon and Ryan Shawcross all spent time there on loan. Until last season though the partnership had gone unused for a few years – Antwerp had become less competitive and United had sought domestic loans primarily. John Cofie then spent the back end of last season there and now this year, two more players are to join the Belgian club on loan.
