Manchester United extended their Premier League winning streak to four games following a thrilling victory over Arsenal at Emirates Stadium this past Saturday. However, they need to change their switch quite soon because they are on the verge of playing a decisive match in the UEFA Champions League. The Red Devils will host CSKA Moscow this Tuesday, knowing a positive result would automatically secure them the top spot in the Group Stage. The game starts at 19:45 BST, and Gianluca Rocchi will be the referee.

Team News

Manchester United are in pretty good form at the moment when it comes to injuries. However, they are not at full strength and there could be a few absentees. There is a chance of rotation as well considering United will take on Manchester City during the weekend.

Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Phil Jones will be out of the game due to injury. Eric Bailly might miss the game too, as the Ivory Coast international is dealing with a knock. However, his chances of playing are quite slim, and the most likely scenario is that he will miss a fifth straight contest. The absences of Jones and Bailly will make way for Marcos Rojo once again, as the Argentinian has looked quite well since returning from injury. He seems a lock to start regardless of the tactical system with three or four men at the back. Paul Pogba is also available, as the red card he suffered against Arsenal will only apply for English competitions and not the European stage.

On the other hand, CSKA Moscow won’t have two important, experienced players available for this game. 35-year-old centre-back Aleksey Berezutski has been ruled out with an undisclosed injury. Georgi Schennikov is out as well with an ankle problem. Georgi Milanov has missed the past three matches and his chances of playing are quite slim as well. Summing up, CSKA could be without two of their best defenders for a pivotal game at Old Trafford.

Form Guide

Manchester United currently sit in second place of the English Premier League standings and even though they are a bit far from Manchester City in the title race, there is no question they are on the right path thanks to their current four-game winning streak that included a stellar performance in their 3-1 victory over Arsenal this past Saturday. Their form during the UEFA Champions League has been pretty solid as well, and sit at the top of the standings with 12 points despite losing 0-1 to FC Basel the last time out.

CSKA Moscow’s recent form has been quite good, too. They are coming off a 2-0 win over Benfica that kept their qualifying chances alive, and they are also riding a positive run of results at the domestic level. Recent wins over Tosno and Rubin Kazan pushed their Premier League winning streak to three games, and are riding a six-game undefeated run across all competitions.

It is worth noting that Manchester United will clinch a Round of 16 berth unless they suffer a MASSIVE defeat. As UEFA.com states: “United would qualify in first place with a point (and can afford to lose by six goals and still go through). If they lose to CSKA and Basel do not win, United and CSKA will go through with first place determined by head-to-head results between the two. If CSKA and Basel win, the top two will be decided in a three-way head to head; United would be through unless they lost by seven goals, and would be top unless they lost by five goals.”

Prediction

Manchester United are riding a four-game winning streak at the Premier League, and the team has been nearly unstoppable at home. They have won both of their home games in the Champions League with convincing performances, and their recent Premier League form suggets they are resembling that team that started the current season on a torrid form during August and early September. CSKA will be a tough opponent, but United have enough talent to secure the three points and the top spot in Group A standings.
