Derry-gate: Critique of FA lacks logic

Rooney argues with ref

Yesterday we had, in the most ironic way imaginable, many commentators defying the baffling logic of the FA, with, of course… baffling logic. Amongst many, we had the Guardian and the Independent (no less) adjudging the FA to be a ‘shambles’ a ‘farce’ and a ‘chaotic mess’; Atkinson and his officials were hauled over the coals, and the ‘suits’ were deemed ‘slaves to Blatter’. And why? Because the FA and the PGMO had decided to stick by the rules, honour the laws of the game, continue to act in a way that was consulted upon with the LMA, PFA and various other football bodies (consulting the fans on this would just be stupid). Staggering!

Manchester United beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 at Old Trafford to go eight points clear at the top of the table. Manchester City’s defeat to Arsenal later in the day confirmed that United now have an eight point cushion with just six games to go. QPR had not travelled to United, in the league, since 1995 – when William Prunier graced the Old Trafford turf. United won the game 2-1 with Andy Cole and Ryan Giggs getting on the scoresheet, with Danny Dichio scoring for the visitors. This time round it was Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes who settled the tie for United. Here we discuss the talking points of the game and welcome comments from both United and QPR fans.

Despite being just 20 years old, Federico Macheda is being written off as a potential United footballer in many quarters. His loan move to QPR is widely considered to be a good move for him but has he played his last game in a United shirt?

Manchester United temporarily went back to the top of the table after their most complete away performance of the season. An unchanged United side only put two goals past QPR – a scoreline that maybe flattered the hosts. United’s 8th away game of the season provided the fifth away clean sheet in the league – impressive considering that’s the same amount they managed in the entirety of last season’s away games in the league.

Below, we discuss the talking points and invite QPR fans as well as United fans to join in the discussion.

United can return to the top of the table, even if only for a few hours, as they travel to Loftus Road to play QPR for the first time in the league in over 15 years. United have been decimated by injuries lately but a very strong performance last weekend at Wolves hints at potentially better things to come.
