Pellistri Set for Granada Move

Facundo Pellistri has gradually established himself in Manchester United’s first team over the past year, though opportunities under Erik ten Hag have remained limited. The manager has predominantly favoured Antony and Marcus Rashford on the right flank, which has restricted Pellistri’s appearances. Now, reports suggest that the Uruguayan winger is on the verge of joining La Liga side Granada. According to local outlet Granada Hoy, via Sport Witness, Pellistri is expected to move to Granada on loan for the remainder of the season. The deal is reportedly in its ‘final phase’ and could be finalised before the January transfer window closes next week.

De Gea in Talks for Football Return

David de Gea is currently negotiating his return to competitive football after a seven-month stint as a free agent. The goalkeeper’s final game for Manchester United was on June 3, which ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Following this, De Gea announced in July 2023 that his long tenure at Old Trafford had ended after 12 years. He left as United’s record appearance holder for a goalkeeper, with 545 appearances, and was part of the squad that won the Premier League title in the 2012/2013 season.

There were reports suggesting De Gea was treated unfairly by the club, with the board offering a contract that included a substantial pay cut from his £375,000-a-week wages. The offer was signed but subsequently not acted upon by the club. Now, after a period away from the sport, De Gea is poised to resume his career. The Daily Mail reports that the 33-year-old is in talks with Saudi Pro League team Al-Shabab, who are also finalising the signing of Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla and are interested in Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech, currently on loan at Galatasaray.

Van De Beek Struggles In Germany

Donny van de Beek, 26, has made three starts for the Bundesliga’s in-form Eintracht Frankfurt but has yet to make a significant impact. The situation worsened on Friday when he was substituted at half-time during a 1-0 victory over Mainz. Positioned in an advanced midfield role as one of two No. 10s, the Netherlands international failed to influence the game. Van de Beek made eight passes, including three in the opposition’s half, but only one was completed successfully. He touched the ball just 14 times before being taken off.

Despite starting previous matches against RB Leipzig and Darmstadt, Van de Beek has not managed to complete a full 90 minutes for Frankfurt. This could spell trouble for Manchester United if Van de Beek’s stint in Germany proves unsuccessful, as he remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2025. United had hoped that his time in Germany would either help him progress or at least maintain his market value. It is also worth noting that Van de Beek has been sidelined for a considerable period, so regaining full match fitness and sharpness may take time.
