Following the 1-0 win against Luton, Manchester United are going on a two-week break from Premier League action, as it is time for the final international break of 2023. A total of nine Man United players will be in action with their national teams, while the remainder of the squad will stay at Carrington and hopefully up their form before the busiest part of the season.
The festive period is getting closer, but before we get into the final weeks of November, let’s have a closer look at which Man United players will play for their national teams this coming week and what will they be fighting for.
England – Harry Maguire & Marcus Rashford
The Three Lions have already qualified for the European Championships 2024 and now will have to face only Malta and North Macedonia, mostly to just mathematically confirm they will be in Pot 1 ahead of the group stage draw on 2 December.
Portugal – Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes will be part of the squad which won all of their qualifying matches so far and will want to keep that record. They are to play Liechtenstein and Iceland in the last two games, while Diogo Dalot will not be part of the squad due to personal reasons.
Scotland – Scott McTominay
Scotland are another team with a Man United player which already qualified for the tournament in Germany and Scott McTominay and his teammates will be motivated to keep doing so well, as they are set to face Georgia and Norway in their final matches.
Sweden – Victor Lindelof
However, Sweden are far from reaching their spot in Germany as they are going to finish third in their group, behind Belgium and Austria. Still, Lindelof will captain his team in the final matches against Azerbaijan and Estonia.
Turkey – Altay Bayindir
It will be a great summer for all the Turks in Germany as their national team already qualified, but Altay Bayindir and his teammates will want to book the top spot in their group as they are set to face second-placed Wales in their final match. Before that, Turkey will play Germany in a friendly.
Cameroon – Andre Onana
It is enough talk about EURO 2024 qualifiers, there are Man United players set to play in World Cup 2026 qualifiers. Andre Onana is named one of the three goalkeepers for Cameroon, who will hope to finish top of their group and automatically qualify for the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Their two matches this month are against Mauritius and Libya.
Morocco – Sofyan Amrabat
At the same time, fourth-placed team from the last World Cup will also play their qualifiers for the next edition of the tournament. Sofyan Amrabat could feature in just one match, against Tanzania next Tuesday, due to Eritrea’s decision to withdraw from the World Cup qualifying. Morocco will have plenty of time to prepare for that one match.
Uruguay – Facundo Pellistri
And last but not the least, the World Cup 2026 qualifiers are going on in South America as well. It is there that Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay have started on a front foot. They will play Bielsa’s native Argentina in Buenos Aires, following their impressive win against Brazil last month. After that, Uruguay will also play Bolivia, this time at home, and hopefully we could see Facundo Pellistri in action.
