Manchester United players are on international duty throughout the next week and this means there will be no club football until the 25 November. European Championship qualifiers are about to finish, while the 2026 World Cup qualifiers are to be played in Africa and South America. But while we wait to see how nine Man United players will fare on international duty, let’s have a look at the latest news regarding our players and their potential futures.
Juventus Exploring Sancho Deal
Jadon Sancho has been ostracised from Manchester United’s first team after his feud with Erik Ten Hag. The problems that started in September are clearly not going to be resolved in a manner which could see United get the best out of the Englishman, so it is becoming increasingly clear the Devils will be looking out for ways to get rid of the player.
Now, Juventus have appeared as the potential destination for the player, as the Italian giants are exploring options of reviving the player’s career. Man United are well aware that, given Sancho’s dismal performances since moving from Germany to England, a move would require them to substantially cut their losses with the player, as no club would shell out even close to what they did in the summer of 2021.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus are looking to investigate a loan agreement in the New Year whereby United would pay a portion of the player’s salary. Nevertheless, the Red Devils are holding out to see if any permanent offers will appear. Sancho is expected to get offers from Saudi Pro League teams in January. However, he turned down one such offer from Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq during the summer, so it’s unclear if he would have changed his mind in the meantime.
United To Lose Onana Due To Africa Cup of Nations
According to The Mirror, Manchester United have come to terms that they will be without Andre Onana when the Africa Cup of Nations begins.
When the Cameroon international moved from Milan to Manchester for £47.2 million in July, the Red Devils assumed he had ruled out any international commitments following a dispute with head coach Rigobert Song at the last year’s World Cup which had seen him leave Cameroon mid-tournament.
However, Onana was called up for the final AFCON qualifiers this year after being pressed to return to his national team. He now appears set to play for his country at the tournament in early 2024, which could for him mean missing up to six games for United.
This means United will have to have a backup plan and Ten Hag has two options – Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir. The Turkish international is the one that was signed last summer as the backup goalkeeper and he is the one that is always named on the bench. That is why it seems Bayindir could make his debut once Onana leaves for international duty and try to shine in Cameroonian’s absence.
