Fiorentina Await Final United Push for Amrabat
Manchester United have yet to make an official bid for Sofyan Amrabat, despite being linked with the midfielder for several weeks. The 27-year-old Moroccan has been patiently waiting for the Red Devils to act, and his situation has led to Fiorentina excluding him from their squad and training sessions. United have already spent significantly this summer, with £55 million for Mason Mount, £47.2m for André Onana, and £64m for Rasmus Højlund, excluding add-ons. As a result, Erik ten Hag is now dependent on player sales to fund any further acquisitions. Dean Henderson’s imminent £15m transfer to Crystal Palace could provide the necessary boost, and West Ham United have reopened talks for Harry Maguire.
Fabrizio Romano, in his Daily Briefing, reiterated that Fiorentina are still waiting for contact from United. “As I have already told you, Sofyan Amrabat is waiting for Man United and will do his best to make the move happen before the transfer window shuts. United have yet to make a formal bid for the player and that needs to happen for the deal to progress – Fiorentina are expecting them to make a move soon,” Romano said. With concerns growing over United’s lack of depth in midfield, especially with Mount sidelined for several weeks, Amrabat could be the creative and combative presence needed to strengthen Ten Hag’s options in the middle of the park.
United Offered Højbjerg as Midfield Option
Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, according to Telegraph Sport. Erik ten Hag is reportedly considering the Danish international, and talks could begin soon, as the club looks to secure a midfielder before the transfer window closes. Højbjerg had been close to joining Atlético Madrid earlier in the summer in a £30 million deal, but negotiations broke down over personal terms. He also turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia, despite a substantial £45m salary package.
The need for midfield reinforcements has intensified after Mason Mount’s injury against Spurs last week. While Ten Hag had already been keen to bolster his squad, Mount’s absence has made additional signings more urgent. Højbjerg, who has fallen out of favour under Ange Postecoglou, with limited appearances off the bench, could be an experienced option for United. Whether United will make a formal offer for the 28-year-old remains uncertain, but Højbjerg’s experience and versatility may provide the depth Ten Hag is seeking.
Gravenberch Deadline Looms Amid United and Liverpool Interest
Manchester United and Liverpool are both in the hunt for Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, with Fabrizio Romano expecting developments before Friday’s transfer deadline. United’s interest in midfield reinforcements has grown since Mason Mount’s injury, despite already spending £55 million on the Englishman earlier in the window. Ten Hag is clearly keen to add depth to his squad, especially with the physical demands of the upcoming campaign.
Gravenberch, 21, is eager to leave Bayern Munich this summer in search of more regular playing time, having been marginalised at the German club. He featured sparingly during the 2022/23 season and has only made one nine-minute appearance so far this term. With both Manchester United and Liverpool keen to strengthen their squads, the race for Gravenberch could come to a head in the final days of the transfer window.
