Ryan Giggs Praises Daniel James… Before Manchester United Move?

Barring a last-minute collapse, all signs indicate Manchester United will sign Swansea City winger Daniel James sooner than later.

The Wales international had an impressive season with the Welsh outfit in the English Championship, and has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford move this summer. And who’s better to judge a potential Welsh winger arriving at Old Trafford than Ryan Giggs?

A club legend who thrived as a player and also had a stint both as an assistant and as a manager, Giggs knows what it takes to succeed at Old Trafford. And it seems he knows James would be a great signing for The Red Devils.

“James was fantastic this last six months, but…”

“Ideally, as an international manager, you don’t want to influence players’ decisions when it comes to clubs. For me it’s about players playing,” Giggs told Sky Sports. “He was fantastic in the last six months for Swansea, putting in devastating performances and I think he can play at any level. He could play in the Premier League, but if he stays at Swansea for another year or two years I’d be equally as happy because he’s done so well there. That’s a decision for Dan to make and I’m sure he’ll make the right decision.”

That’s a strong statement from Giggs. However, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. As the Wales manager, he’ll undoubtedly be thrilled to see one of his players being linked with a United switch. But James is the real deal, and he could become a success for The Red Devils as long as he adjusts to the pace of the Premier League.

During the 2018-19 Championship season, James had four goals and nine assists. But we mustn’t forget he’s only 21 years old. How many 21-year-old players are already generating Premier League interest after a full season in England’s second-tier? Certainly not too many. That’s the perfect statement of how good James was for The Swans this past term.

And if Giggs approves the move, then he might be a good signing for the club.
