With the international break on full swing, it’s the perfect time to talk about Manchester United and their potential transfer rumours. Because there have been plenty of transfer news surrounding the Old Trafford side in recent weeks.
There’s been talk of Paul Pogba potentially leaving the club to join Real Madrid. Some outlets have also entertained the possibility of a goalkeepong change, swapping David De Gea with Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois. Even names such as Antoine Griezmann have surfaced as potential summer signings. But the most recent rumour is one that should make Manchester United fans quite nervous. It involves one of the most important players for the club since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
We’re talking about Ander Herrera. The Spanish midfielder has secured a starting role with The Red Devils in recent months, and has been the perfect partner for both Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in the middle of the pitch. But if the recent rumours are true, then the former Athletic Bilbao star could be on his way out of the club since a report from Spanish outlet MARCA has indicated that PSG are keen to make a move for the 29-year-old.
MARCA isn’t the first outlet that reports something like this, though. Previously, The Sun had indicated that Ander were on PSG’s radar. But now it is the Spanish media outlet claiming they understand the deal could happen soon. Needless to say, this is something The Red Devils should avoid becoming a reality.
Why Manchester United should hold on to Herrera
Not only Herrera has been brilliant since the managerial change. He also possesses great ascendancy among the squad members, and several pundits have indicated he has enough traits to eventually become captain of the squad one day. But intangibles aside, we can’t forget the fact that Herrera has played at a very high level this season as well. His ability to impact the game on both ends of the pitch is not something you find easily in today’s game.
Money could be a factor in the completion of this deal, though. Per the MARCA report, Herrera would earn €173,000 per week if he were to join PSG. And while Manchester United could still trigger a one-year extension to his current deal, they would need to up their offer to get close to what the French giants are offering. As it usually happens, this could end up being a case of loyalty vs money. But regardless of what happens, Manchester United must act quickly.
Given how good Herrera has been this season, they simply can’t let him go. Especially to another Champions League contender.
