The Most Interesting Facts Of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United Reign So Far

Manchester United have changed their manager and after just four matches, things are looking a lot different. As we take a short break from Premier League action and turn our attention to FA Cup, we will take a short look back on some interesting things of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s short reign at Old Trafford.

Four Wins Straight Away

No Manchester United manager managed to win his first four matches in charge since Sir Matt Busby. The legendary manager was the only one to do it for the past 73 years, but now Solskjaer is accompanying him. The team played with attacking swagger and are now six points off fourth place, in race for the Champions League qualification.

14 Goals Scored

Manchester United scored 14 goals in four matches under Solskjaer. Jose Mourinho’s United scored 29 in those 17 matches, which means Solskjaer’s team already has 48 percent of those 29 goals. The Devils managed to score two, three, four and five in these four matches and conceded just three goals in process.

That was not something United fans were accustomed to and seeing a team free-flowing in attack was a good change. Hopefully Solskjaer’s boys can keep scoring goals in a sustainable fashion.

Most Points In Last 6 Matches

No Premier League team won more points than Manchester United in the past six matches. In the so called form table, there are three teams with 15 points won from possible 18 – Man United, Liverpool and Spurs. Liverpool and Tottenham have a better goal-difference than United, but with 19 goals scored and seven conceded, that is still a great outcome.

There are two matches under Mourinho calculated here – beating of Fulham and Liverpool loss – while only Man City and Burnley are currently on a run of two consecutive wins in the league, compared to United’s four.

Rashford’s Incredible Form

Marcus Rashford’s form was on the rise even the final days of Jose Mourinho, but it all even improved after Solskjaer came in. Rashford has scored three and assisted one in these four matches, but if we go a bit further back, we are still seeing great numbers. The Englishman has five goals and five assists in the last 10 matches, averaging a direct hand in more than a goal per 90 minutes played.

Martial And Lukaku Not Far Off City Stars

It is interesting to see now that Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku have scored eight Premier League goals each. The Frenchman and the Belgian were often either criticized or looked upon as they were not on top of their game, but have produced 16 goals among themselves. Compare that to much hailed Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero and you do not see them too far ahead.

Sterling has nine goals to his name and Aguero now has 10, in a team that has scored 13 goals more than United.

Pogba’s 7 In 4

The most striking difference in displays is that of Paul Pogba. The Frenchman was either so happy to see Mourinho go or to see Solskjaer arrive that his numbers are going “through the roof” right now. In these four matches under the Norwegian manager, Pogba has four goals and three assists. That is a hand in seven goals already and he previously had a hand in seven Man United goals between mid-September and late December, a little bit over three months. That is some drastic difference Solskjaer has gotten out of him.
