After Friday international matches, we learnt the news of Senegal reaching the World Cup, after beating South Africa. On Saturday, there were two more African national sides that qualified for the tournament in Russia. Morocco will play for the first team at a World Cup since 1998, while Tunisia are returning to the greatest stage after 12 years.

Morocco secured their place after beating Ivory Coast 2-0. Eric Bailly was not part of the Ivory Coast’s squad, thus being unable to help his team-mates in the crucial match of the qualifiers. Tunisia drew 0-0 against Libya, but that was enough for them to book their place. Six more spots are left, but let’s see how Manchester United players fared this Saturday.

Romero With A Clean Sheet

There were not many Man United players in action. Sergio Romero was in goal for Argentina against Russia. Los Albicelestes visited the World Cup hosts and played in the stadium which will host the grand final on 13 July 2018. Argentina won that match 1-0. Only goal came through Sergio Aguero after 86 minutes. Jorge Sampaoli’s side played in an awkward 3-5-1-1 formation, while Romero stayed in goal for the whole 90 minutes.

Russians did not pose a lot of threat to Manchester United second choice goalkeeper. They had only four shots through, one of them being on target. Therefore, it is not a great surprise to see Argentina claim another clean sheet. They conceded just 17 goals in 18 CONMEBOL qualifying matches and Romero is big part of that.

De Gea On The Bench

On the other hand, David De Gea did not have the opportunity to play this Saturday. His Spain hosted Costa Rica and duly delivered. La Roja won 5-0, goals coming through Jordi Alba, Alvaro Morata, Andres Iniesta and David Silva (twice). Instead of De Gea, Kepa Arrizabalaga was in goal for Spain.

The Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper has been showing remarkable improvements recently. His fine displays have caught the eyes of Real Madrid, Arsenal and Juventus. Los Blancos are prepared to fight for Kepa’s signature, especially since no one is too excited about the prospect of Keylor Navas staying as the first choice goalkeeper. De Gea is Spain’s obvious first choice and it is good for Manchester United he did not play on this occasion.

Which Manchester United Players Are In Action On Sunday And Monday?

On Sunday, there will be no Manchester United players in action. European qualifiers will see Greece host Croatia and Switzerland host Northern Ireland. Croatia won 4-1 in the first leg in Zagreb, with Ivan Perisic being amongst the best players on the pitch. The Inter Milan man has been linked with Man United for some time now. It remains unknown if the Reds will be chasing him in the following transfer windows, yet it was good seeing him excel once again.

Monday will be a more interesting day for the Reds’ fans. Italy and Sweden will battle it out again with Matteo Darmian and Victor Lindelof playing, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan will play for Armenia against Cyprus.
