Manchester United are preparing for another Premier League match. After beating Brighton on Saturday 1-0, Jose Mourinho and his players are getting ready for the new challenge. The Red Devils will be playing at Vicarage Road against Watford and the goal is the same – win three points.
Some players will not be there. Jose Mourinho talked on Monday in a press conference about the next rival, but also about certain players missing the Watford game.
“Against Watford [last season], I was very upset with their first goal after someone put Martial in the hospital and the referee let it go. That is the reason why I was very upset. Watford have made progress. I think they have a squad full of very good players. They have a good coach and they improved a lot from last season”, Mourinho pointed out after revealing Luke Shaw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have not travelled with the team.
Watford have won last weekend away against Newcastle (3-0) and are in great form. However, that should not make Manchester United feel too worried. The talk about the possible title race is always open and the players are embracing that challenge. With that in mind, every game should be treated as the one that has to be won.
Nemanja Matic Looking To Give It All
“It is difficult to make promises in football”, said Nemanja Matic in an interview for ESPN. “I cannot promise that we will win the league. However, I can promise that I will give 100 percent and we’ll see how far it takes us. I am going to do everything I can to make that happen [Manchester United win the title]. Let’s see what we can achieve together. I think we can go far”, Serbian midfielder insisted.
Matic points out he is living his dream now. “Of course, I also have a dream of winning the league with United” But for that, many obstacles have to be put behind. Only first of the many left is against Watford. As Manchester City continue to win week in-week out, the pressure on United is continuous.
Still, that is to be expected at a club like Manchester United. And Anthony Martial knows that. The Frenchman is playing in great form this season, showing big signs of improvement on last term. He is also aware people judge him on his talent.
Martial: “Mourinho Was Tough With Me”
“Some people sometimes forget my age, with my talent, they wait for me to explode quickly, but everyone has their future”, Martial explained calmly. “I want to win as many titles as possible”, he also added.
A big part in that possible scenario will have Jose Mourinho. As Martial points out, it was not always easy to work with the Portuguese manager.
“Jose Mourinho, he was tough with me. I think we didn’t understand each other, but we got to know each other, we talked a lot and it’s going very well” Martial explained to Telefoot.
“I had minor extra-sports problems, it played in my head, I wasn’t focused enough and now as soon as I get back on the pitch, I look to make a big impact”, the winger says.
And he has been doing that. Against Watford, Manchester United might need him to do that again. The title is still far away, but the ambition is not lacking this season.
