A day after one midfielder agrees a contract extension; Darren Fletcher also signs a new deal.

Darren Fletcher has signed a new four year deal with the club. He remains a Red until at least 2015.

Speaking to manutd.com Sir Alex Ferguson has said:

“Darren has been at the club since he was fifteen years old. I am extremely proud that he came through the ranks of our youth academy. I am delighted Darren has signed a new contract, he has developed into a top-class midfielder.”

Fletcher said:

“I take great pride in playing for Manchester United, I have won many trophies in my years playing here and I am looking forward to winning many more in the seasons to come. I would like to thank everyone at the club.”

Fletcher joined the club aged 15 and was included in the first team squad at just 17 but due to league rules he couldn’t make his debut. It would be three years later he’d play his first game in March 2003 and since then he’s played 288 games scoring 21 goals.

  1. great news, he is the future of our midfield. I hope we consistently go for a 4-2-3-1 in future with:

    New Keeper
    Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
    Fletcher New Midfielder
    Valencia Rooney Nani
    Berbatov

  2. I liked when Fletcher played more of an attacking role, one he played in the beginning of the last season when ronaldo didnt want to play for us.
He scored 2-3 vital goals when no one was scoring in the team.

  3. I don’t see why Fletcher NEEDS more goals. Obviously it’d be nice, but he’s proven capable of popping up with important ones even in a reserved role. That’ll do for me.

  4. Great to see both Fletchy and Carro signed extensions! Both immense players. The poll’s title is a bit dodgy though, does a player NEED to score more goals? If you’re a striker and you scored 5 goals a season, yes you do. Fletcher? Given the role he’s in, I think I’m happy with what he produced.

  5. Yeah I appreciate the poll is a bit dodgy but I personally think he’s capable of scoring more… you see the position he took up say away at everton for his goal

  6. It is always useful to have double figures from a CM. We have regularily had that with successful sides. Robbo did it anyway. Keane scored on a regular basis to make up for Ince’s shortfall and when Keane played deeper Scholes popped up with the goods. It is something we have been lacking in recent years from this position, and although not that noticable when Ronnie was scoring phonemenal tallys for a wide player he has gone and there has to be greater emphasis on the mid players. We have always had good goal tallys from the wide men like Kanchelskis, Giggs & Beckham.

  7. darren is a great midfielder and if he was not there manchester united midfield would not be as strong.still he need to score more goals to be even better at his game
