I apologize for the lack of a Stretty Stories yesterday. My car broke down while traveling and I was stuck out of town and with no internet access. I am back home safely now and very excited to get back to blogging, so let’s get on to the news…

Today’s biggest news is Manchester United’s newest signing – Tiago Manuel Dias Correia, known as Bebe. The transfer was confirmed by the club yesterday and Bebe will undergo a medical later this week to finalize the deal. Meanwhile an former hero has his international career ended and Chicharito continues to show how lethal he is in front of goal.

Manchester United sign Portuguese striker Bebe – The Guardian

Despite his departure from the club to manage Portugal, it seems Carlos Queiroz is still assisting Sir Alex and Manchester United. It is reported that the club moved for Bebe after Queiroz recommended the 20-year-old striker to the gaffer. Our newest signing only just signed a five-year contract with Vitoria de Guimaraes five weeks ago, but United moved quickly to trigger his buyout clause of £7.4 million. This brings the striker count at Old Trafford to eight, although Mame Biram Diouf has already gone to Blackburn on loan and Danny Welbeck seems destined for a loan move to Sunderland. The report suggests that Sir Alex only just met the player yesterday and has made swift work of the deal. While I have never heard of or seen Bebe before today, the story describes him as right-footed and good in the air standing at 6ft 2in. Our newest signing was raised in an orphanage and has played in the Homeless World Cup for Portugal. He’s certainly come a long way since his childhood, now reaching the big time by representing Manchester United. I look forward to see what he will bring to the squad. Javier Hernandez was the last player Sir Alex signed that I had never heard of before. Now as Chicharito shows all the signs of a star in the making, hopefully Bebe will follow in his footsteps.

Capello calls time on Beckham’s England career – The Guardian

We now transition to from exciting news about a new signing to some very disappointing news about a former hero. Fabio Capello said today that David Beckham’s time with England has come to an end. Beckham will get his farewell match in the upcoming friendly against France. What upsets me about this, though, is that Capello told the press this before he had even told Beckham. After all the years of service and dedication Beckham has given to the national team, Capello could’ve at least phoned him beforehand and give him the news. This is certainly not the way you treat a living legend. I’m thrilled that he will be given a farewell match, but the way this decision was announced is brutal.

Chicharito scores against World Cup-winners Spain – ESPN

The friendly between Mexico and Spain yesterday with Chicharito getting a goal against the recently-crowned World Cup champions. In the past week alone, the Mexican striker has scored against Chelsea and Spain, the reigning English and world champions respectively. For anyone who doubted his quality when we first signed him, he’s starting to build an impressive resume before he’s even kicked a ball in the Premier League.
