Manchester United are getting closer to one of their most important matches of the season, the big clash against Liverpool. But this time the team is in a very poor situation, as the Devils are sitting in 12th after eight matches and it is not impossible for them to end up in relegation zone on Monday, if all the results go against them.
But, whatever might happen this weekend, we still have other things to talk about before we move on to the Sunday match.
Solskjaer Talks January Window
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke for Sky Sports about the upcoming weekend, the tough match that is ahead of the boys, but he also spoke about the possibility of bringing in a couple of players in the January transfer window. The manager said that the money is there and that club can definitely spend, but that they will only sign players that are the right for this team. The club have been looking at other players and Solskjaer would like to sign a couple of them.
He stressed that the club is planning and looking at what their targets are. He said that the resources are there if the right players are available.
Obviously, Solskjaer also pointed out that the January transfer window is a difficult one and he certainly has a point there. The availability of players is not so obvious as during summer and the price of certain players could rise. It will depend on who is available during January window and Solskjaer hopes there could be some experienced players for United to sign.
There is a strong implication here that Solskjaer would like to sign experienced players, basically suggesting that United’s squad is not experienced enough.
Emre Can Links
Manchester United are about to play Liverpool in Premier League and a link between the two clubs appeared, as Emre Can is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford.
Juventus midfielder would be open for a return to the Premier League, after a lack of time on the pitch so far this season. Can has played just 78 minutes of club football in 2019-20 and that would make him seriously consider moving back to England.
Several media outlets have pointed out that Can could be a natural replacement for Paul Pogba, who is constantly being linked with a move to Spain or a return to Juventus. However, that does not feel so right and Can being part of the same squad as Pogba would make more sense. How realistic this deal actually is remains to be seen.
Rangnick Responds To Director Of Football Rumours
Amongst several names that were linked with Manchester United in terms of the position of director of football, Ralf Rangnick was not mentioned so often. The man that stood behind Hoffenheim’s wonderful rise over ten years ago and the man that did some amazing things for RB Leipzig was asked about the possibility of getting to Manchester and becoming United’s DoF.
He told Guardian that he is happy where is right now, but that he would have an important question for any club that would contact him. That question would be whether he can be somebody who could influence areas of development across the whole club.
This makes sense. Rangnick is fairly unknown to most people in English football, but he is a man that needs total control if he is to work with a club and implement his ideas. He said that with every change in coaching department, the identity changes as well and that is thus reflected in the sporting development. Could he be someone we could see move to United?
