New Manchester United signing, Eric Bailly, has revealed that he choose to sign for the club due to the manager in place – Jose Mourinho. Speaking to The Sunday Times, Bailly was full of praise for Mourinho, spoke of his admiration for ex-Chelsea forward Didier Drogba and that former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic was his hero growing up .
Bailly is Jose Mourinho’s first signing at the club and signed a four year deal.
The Ivory Coast international, who has made 14 caps for his national team, spoke of how easy a choice it was for him to choose Manchester United over any other club, citing Manchester City and Pep Guardiola
“I signed for United because I like Mourinho, as simple as that. I wanted to play for someone who works very hard. I didn’t speak to Pep Guardiola but the ‘second’ [assistant] manager called me and Mourinho called me as well.
He said come and play for me. I prefer Mourinho, in part because of Didier Drogba, who Mourinho worked with.I have played with Didier in the Ivory Coast, he is a friend and he told me, ‘Jose did this for me, Jose did that for me'”.
United’s new centre half, who played for 67 minutes in the 5-2 victory over Turkish club Galatasaray, was also full of praise for ex-Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic – who left the club in 2014 on a free transfer following the disastrous David Moyes reign. He also spoke highly of Chelsea captain John Terry, but stated that Vidic was a much ‘harder’ defender:
“I like John Terry and, especially, Nemanja Vidic. I watched them both on TV when I was in Spain. They are very strong and powerful, like I try to be. Terry plays the ball well but Vidic was more hard and played really hard.
