Stretty Stories is officially back from the holiday hiatus. Much of the press surrounding Manchester United today involves the club’s youngsters. Kiko Macheda has been loaned to Sampdoria for the remainder of the season, Nicky Ajose has reportedly been offered a new deal by United, and James Chester will complete a move to Hull City today. There are also reports that Wigan would request Gabriel Obertan on loan should Tom Cleverley be recalled.
There has been speculation that Sir Alex Ferguson may recall Tom Cleverley from his loan at Wigan. Should that happen, Roberto Martinez will reportedly ask for Gabriel Obertan on loan. I doubt this rumour, but assuming it is true I think it would be beneficial for the club. Cleverley seems to be a better and more developed player than Obertan, and Obertan would benefit from playing regularly at a side like Wigan. However, I am concerned that Cleverley’s development would suffer as he would no longer being playing as consistently as he is at Wigan. As I said though, there does not seem to be much substance to this speculation.
Nicky Ajose, currently on loan with League Two side Bury, has reportedly been offered a new contract by Manchester United. Since joining in September, Ajose has impressed with six goals in 13 appearances. Bury would like to keep the 19-year-old longer, but interest from Championship and League One sides threatens any extension of the loan. Ajose’s loan expired yesterday.
James Chester will complete a move to Hull City today. The centre back came through Manchester United’s academy, but made only one senior appearance. After three loan spells in the past two years, Chester will now make a permanent move to the KC Stadium. Best of luck to him.
