Garnacho Eyes Chelsea Move as United Rift Deepens

Alejandro Garnacho appears to be edging towards a Manchester United exit, with The Sun reporting that the 20-year-old winger has made Chelsea his preferred destination. Tensions between Garnacho and the club have reportedly reached a breaking point, largely sparked by the fallout from United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. After being left on the bench during the 1–0 loss, the Argentine publicly criticised the team’s failings, saying that United didn’t beat anyone in the league and that the team lacked many things, most notably goals.

The remarks didn’t go down well with new manager Ruben Amorim or senior figures within the squad. Matters escalated further when Amorim allegedly told Garnacho during a team meeting, “You better pray that you can find a club to sign you,” signalling the end of his United career. Garnacho has since instructed his representatives to push for a move to Chelsea. He is reportedly keen to stay in the Premier League and believes Enzo Maresca’s project at Stamford Bridge presents the ideal opportunity for growth. Chelsea, for their part, are preparing a formal offer, with United valuing the player at £60 million.

Despite the internal drama, Garnacho’s on-field impact last season was undeniable. He tallied 11 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, underlining his attacking prowess. However, his homegrown status means any sale would be recorded as pure profit in United’s books—an added incentive under Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR). United’s willingness to cash in suggests that Garnacho, despite his talent, no longer fits into Amorim’s long-term vision at Old Trafford.

Rashford Also on the Way Out

Manchester United’s overhaul under INEOS looks set to continue with Marcus Rashford now made available for transfer at a valuation of £40 million, according to Sky Sports. Rashford’s fall from favour has been rapid. Once the club’s poster boy, the 27-year-old was shipped off on loan to Aston Villa earlier this year after losing his starting spot under Amorim. That short-term move now looks like the precursor to a permanent departure.

With United failing to qualify for any European competition and needing to comply with financial fair play rules, Rashford’s sale would help ease the wage bill and offer a clear financial boost. Like Garnacho, he’s a product of United’s academy, meaning a £40 million transfer would go down as full profit on the balance sheet. Barcelona have been credited with interest, though whether they can meet Rashford’s wage demands remains in doubt. For now, his next destination remains unclear, but what is certain is that his time at Old Trafford is nearing its end.

Rashford remains under contract until 2028, but the club’s decision to actively seek buyers signals a definitive break. Some fans may view the asking price as low for a player of his calibre and history, yet others see it as a pragmatic decision based on form and financial needs. With both Garnacho and Rashford heading for the exit, Manchester United’s transformation under INEOS is gaining pace, driven as much by financial realism as by tactical renewal.
