The January transfer window will close in the next few days, and Manchester United are yet to make a move. But barring anything spectacular, the Old Trafford side shouldn’t make substantial additions to the side. Especially considering just how good they have been playing since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill to create new rumours – on a daily basis – related to Manchester United.
The latest round of rumours involves the departure of a long-serving United player, as well as the potential arrival of one of the brightest prospects in the Italian Serie A. We are talking about Antonio Valencia and Nicolo Barella, respectively.
Is Antonio Valencia really leaving Manchester United?
Not quite… but we shouldn’t rule that possibility out, either. The Ecuadorian remains a serviceable player, but no one can escape Father Time. And while Valencia remains a capable player, he’s not the dangerous wing threat he was in the past. Plus, the fact that he operates almost exclusively as a right-back could cut his playing time even more. Solskjaer has Ashley Young, Diogo Dalot and even Matteo Darmian to cover the right side of the defence. In that regard, Valencia could end up being “expendable”. Even if he remains one of the most influential players on the first-team squad.
There’s decent interest on his services for a temporary loan until the end of the season. Both Newcastle and Fulham have reportedly enquired for him. And while the Ecuadorian wants to remain at Old Trafford until June, a move elsewhere wouldn’t be shocking based on recent reports. Without a doubt, this is something we must be looking at closely.
What are Manchester United’s chances of signing Nicolo Barella?
If you haven’t heard that Manchester United have been linked with Barella, then you must be living under a rock. The 21-year-old Cagliari midfielder is one of the most-prized prospects in the Serie A, and he’s been linked with a move to both Manchester United and Chelsea. However, The Red Devils are favourites to sign the talented Italian playmaker.
It’s hard to believe in every single rumour that is out there. However, this one seems to be quite true. The interest of Manchester United for the Italian’s services has been real for quite a while, and they seem set to steal him with Chelsea lurking on the shadows for a potential move. He would be an excellent signing for The Red Devils. And while he has room for improvement, he could become a mainstay in United’s midfield for the next 10 to 15 years.
Those players do not grow on trees. And Manchester United should do everything on their power to try to sign him. The sooner, the better.
