Man United Close to Securing Ugarte Deal with PSG
Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of reaching an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for the transfer of Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte. The midfielder, who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, has struggled to maintain his place in Luis Enrique’s PSG side after just one season under the Spaniard. Ugarte’s exclusion from PSG’s squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre on Friday has fuelled speculation regarding his departure. PSG have already lined up his replacement, with Joao Neves joining from Benfica earlier this summer, making Ugarte’s exit seem imminent.
According to French outlet Le Parisien, the two clubs are nearing a deal valued at around €60 million (£51 million), though some details remain to be finalised. However, confidence is high that the transfer will be completed before the deadline. Reports suggest that Ugarte initially impressed in Paris but became “disillusioned” after seeing his playing time diminish from October onwards. The Manchester Evening News has hinted that United could structure the deal similarly to the one that brought Sofyan Amrabat to Old Trafford last season. However, sources in France are suggesting this move will likely be a permanent deal rather than a loan arrangement.
Napoli Pushing for McTominay as United Seek Reinforcements
With just over a week left in the transfer window, Manchester United are still facing significant midfield issues and are working to resolve them before the deadline. In addition to their pursuit of Ugarte, recent reports from Italy indicate United are exploring alternatives, including a potential move for Atalanta’s Ederson. United, who have been in discussions with Atalanta over the payment structure for Rasmus Hojlund, have also enquired about Ederson’s availability. However, it appears the £42 million they were willing to offer will not be enough to persuade Atalanta to part ways with the Brazilian midfielder.
Meanwhile, negotiations between United and Napoli for Scott McTominay are ongoing, but both clubs remain at an impasse. According to Corriere dello Sport, United have placed a valuation of £25-30 million on the Scotland international, whereas Napoli are only prepared to offer £17 million. United are in no rush to sell McTominay, having already turned down two bids from Fulham, the latest just shy of £23 million. Further talks are expected in what has been described as “delicate and complex” negotiations. United boss Erik ten Hag views McTominay as an important part of his squad, further complicating any potential exit for the academy graduate.
