Manchester United have made a number of enhancements to the Academy schedule. This with the aim of providing the best experience for the youngsters who aim to compete with the senior team at some point of their careers.
With that in mind, Manchester United have planned a friendly matches against one of the top youth sides in Europe. As informed by Manchester United’s official website, The Reds will take on AC Milan U19 squad at Leigh Sports Village on Friday 20 December. The match will be played at 19:00 GMT.
Have there been other friendlies against top European academies in the past?
It is worth noting this is not the first friendly for the U19 squad against another top European opponent. Back in September, United settled for a 2-2 draw against Hertha Berlin at Altrincham’s Moss Lane.
The idea of these fixtures is to enhance the experience for young players who aim to move through the youth ranks. Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong are the latest examples of Academy graduates who have settled as senior-squad members. Brandon Williams and James Garner would also fit in that category.
The Red Devils already faced an Italian opponent a few months ago. They played Juventus in the UEFA Youth League last season. The Reds secured a 4-1 home win, and settled for a 2-2 draw in Torino.
