Manchester United kick off their 2010/11 Premier League campaign against Championship winners Newcastle United at Old Trafford on August 14th. United opened the 2000/01 with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle, with Andy Cole and Ronny Johnson getting on the score sheet. The next game sees United up against Europa League finalists Fulham and then at home to West Ham at the end of the month. United then face back to back games against Merseyside opposition, with United traveling to Goodison Park on the 11th – a ground where United were well beaten last term – and then host Liverpool at Old Trafford on the 18th.
Last season, United drew with Sunderland & Blackburn, lost to Liverpool, Chelsea (twice), Aston Villa and Everton after playing in the Champions League. United’s will play the following games straight after the group matches (if we go on last season’s fixture dates): (H) Liverpool (A) Sunderland (A) Stoke City (H) Wolves (H) Blackburn Rovers (H) Arsenal. It is still far too early in preseason and with the World Cup taking up everyones attention – to fully focus or predict on the forthcoming fixture list, however it is clear to see that our title run in will be key. United travel to Newcastle, host Everton, travel to London to play Arsenal and then back to Old Trafford for Chelsea. After that United travel to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers before hosting Blackpool in the final game of the season.
So what are your thoughts on the fixture list? What do you think of our run in and what do you see as the most tricky run? To see the Manchester United fixtures in full please visit Sky Sports.
As a Newcastle fan, my thoughts are we wont be kicking off the season with a win, or a point for that matter.
Good luck United, hope you can win it this season, although it would be nice if you could gift us the first game 😉
