Man United Strike Deal For Mbeumo, Romano Claims
Manchester United have reached a full agreement with Brentford for the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, according to Fabrizio Romano, who confirmed the news with his trademark “here we go”. The 25-year-old winger had long given the green light to join United, having already agreed personal terms with the club while rejecting other offers. However, despite Mbeumo’s stance, the talks between Brentford and INEOS had been dragging on for over a month, with Brentford rejecting at least two bids for failing to meet their £70 million valuation. Eventually, Brentford’s firm position paid off, as United submitted an improved third bid on Thursday. Romano reported that the proposal was finally accepted, clearing the way for Mbeumo to make the switch.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein was the first to reveal the terms of the deal, stating that United will pay £65 million over four instalments, along with a further £6 million in performance-related add-ons. United manager Ruben Amorim had been eager to complete the move before the club’s trip to Chicago on Tuesday. He wanted Mbeumo to feature in the US tour as part of his pre-season preparations. Romano later added that the Cameroonian is set to sign a contract until June 2030, with United inserting an option to extend the agreement by an additional year, until 2031. Following this breakthrough, United are now expected to shift their focus to other key areas of the squad. Reinforcements at striker, midfield and possibly in goal are all being explored by the club’s hierarchy.
Who Are Devils Looking Into After Mbeumo?
Now that the Mbeumo transfer is practically complete, Manchester United are reportedly turning their attention to other targets, with Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson emerging as one of the names under consideration. The Red Devils appear ready to step up their pursuit of a new centre-forward following their agreement with Brentford for the Cameroonian winger. The total package for Mbeumo could reach £71 million, making him the club’s second major acquisition of the summer after Matheus Cunha. Romano stated on Friday that INEOS are now focused on signing a striker who can complement the attack and potentially provide an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund. While he did not list specific names in his latest update, he had previously mentioned Jackson as one of the players United admire.
This interest has now been further echoed by Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who said that Jackson is indeed among the profiles being monitored by the club. He noted that United are looking at other options too and have not yet advanced talks with Chelsea. Still, he suggested the situation is one to watch in the coming period. Plettenberg also pointed out that a move away from Stamford Bridge cannot be ruled out for Jackson, even though the player is contracted to Chelsea until 2033. The Senegal international joined from Villarreal in 2023 in a deal worth around £33 million. Since arriving in West London, he has made 81 appearances, scoring 30 goals and contributing 12 assists. Despite his productivity, Jackson has faced criticism for missing clear-cut chances. His position may now be under threat, especially after Chelsea brought in Liam Delap, who had turned down a move to Old Trafford in favour of joining the Blues.
