Barcelona Closing In On Rashford Loan Move

Barcelona are reportedly making progress in negotiations to bring Marcus Rashford to Camp Nou, with talks ongoing over a loan agreement, according to David Ornstein. The two clubs are understood to be working on a deal that would see the England international join Barcelona for the 2025/26 season, with the Spanish side holding an option to make the transfer permanent next summer. Rashford is said to view a switch to the La Liga giants as a long-standing ambition, having been out of the Manchester United first team since December 2024.

United have now approved the loan, despite the financial hit of missing out on a potential £40 million transfer fee. As Rashford is a homegrown player, any income from his sale would be registered as pure profit under Profit and Sustainability Regulations, but United appear willing to forgo that for now. Rashford remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, leaving the possibility open for a future sale. For now, he is part of a group of unwanted players being moved on ahead of the new campaign, alongside Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho. If this does mark the end of Rashford’s time at United, it concludes a two-decade chapter with his boyhood club, during which he made 426 appearances, scored 138 goals and provided 77 assists.

United Turning Attention to Kolo Muani

Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani, as they prepare for life without Rashford. On the same day they sanctioned Rashford’s move to Barcelona, United intensified their search for a forward, though the nature of the loan deal means the club still lack immediate funds for new signings. United have already missed out on key targets this summer, with Liam Delap joining Chelsea and Viktor Gyokeres opting for Arsenal.

They now face competition from Newcastle United in the race to sign Kolo Muani, a player previously on their radar prior to his 2023 transfer to PSG. Despite his promising stint at Eintracht Frankfurt, the Frenchman has struggled to establish himself in Paris, making only 23 starts under Luis Enrique across all competitions, including just 15 in Ligue 1. A loan move to Juventus in the second half of last season helped him rediscover his form. He featured 22 times for the Italian side, including three appearances at the Club World Cup, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists. Juventus are eager to keep him, but have yet to strike a deal with PSG, who want to sell the forward permanently. FootMercato now reports that both United and Newcastle are actively exploring moves for the 26-year-old, as both clubs look to bolster their attacking options before the window closes.
