Fernandes Seeks New Contract
Bruno Fernandes has been the subject of ongoing speculation regarding his future at Manchester United. Recent reports suggest that the United captain is aiming for a new contract that would place him among the club’s highest earners, alongside Marcus Rashford. According to The Guardian, Fernandes is pressing for a revised deal to reflect his status and contribution. Jamie Jackson reports that Fernandes is waiting for clarity on Erik ten Hag’s future and the club’s long-term strategy before deciding whether to seek a move away from Old Trafford. The Guardian’s report mentions that while United’s hierarchy, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, considers Fernandes their top player and has no immediate intention to sell him, financial considerations might influence their stance. The need to raise funds and reduce the wage bill to reinvest in the squad could lead them to consider any substantial offers for Fernandes.
Currently, Fernandes earns around £200,000 a week under a contract that extends to 2026, with an additional year option. It is believed he feels his contributions are undervalued in light of his significant impact on the team. On Saturday, Stretty News reported that Bayern Munich are contemplating a move for Fernandes this summer. It is understood that Fernandes’ agent has been engaging with potential interested clubs.

Mainoo Joins England Squad
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has joined the England squad ahead of their friendly against Iceland at Wembley. This match will be the final warm-up before Gareth Southgate finalises his 26-man squad for Euro 2024. All 24 teams participating in Euro 2024 must submit their final squads by Friday, June 7. Southgate may choose to wait until the last moment to make his selections. United players Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have made the provisional squad but need to demonstrate their fitness after recovery. Mainoo joined the England camp on Tuesday following a brief break given to players who featured in the FA Cup final.
