Zirkzee Future Remains Uncertain
Joshua Zirkzee’s situation at Manchester United appears increasingly uncertain as the January transfer window approaches. The Dutch forward has reportedly grown frustrated by his lack of game time, and recent reports suggest he may push for a move away from Old Trafford, even if only on loan, to secure more consistent minutes elsewhere.
United, however, are understood to be reluctant to sanction his departure. Manager Ruben Amorim is set to lose both Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, leaving his attacking options significantly reduced. Despite being left on the bench for a sixth time this season in the recent 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, the club has privately praised Zirkzee for his professionalism and mature attitude throughout this difficult spell.
Nevertheless, journalist Sam C reports that the situation is becoming “increasingly complicated.” Interest in the 24-year-old continues to mount, with West Ham United leading the chase. Nuno Espírito Santo is believed to see Zirkzee as a potential solution to his side’s struggles near the bottom of the table, with the Hammers sitting three points from safety despite their 3-1 victory over Newcastle. AS Roma have also been linked, offering the former Bologna striker a possible route back to Serie A. Whether he chooses to stay in England or return to Italy remains to be seen.
Lineker And Neville Clash Over Sesko
Following Manchester United’s draw against Nottingham Forest, opinions were divided over the performance of Benjamin Sesko. While Gary Lineker praised the Red Devils’ attacking options, former United captain Gary Neville expressed doubts about the young striker’s readiness for the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim fielded the same starting XI that defeated Brighton the previous week, and the side appeared in control when Casemiro gave United the lead after 34 minutes. However, Forest struck twice through Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolò Savona, before Amad Diallo’s late volley salvaged a point.
Discussing the match on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker commended the recruitment of Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, calling all three “really good players” with strong potential. Neville, however, was less convinced. He remarked that Sesko “looks awkward” and has yet to justify his £80 million transfer fee, adding that although the Slovenian is young and still settling in, supporters “want to see a bit more.” The contrasting views underline the uncertainty surrounding Sesko’s adaptation, even as United’s attack continues to show signs of progress.
