Man United Set Price For Shaw Departure

Manchester United are prepared to sanction Luke Shaw’s exit this summer if a suitable proposal arrives. The club have already secured the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, while Benjamin Sesko has reached an agreement on personal terms, awaiting United to strike a deal with RB Leipzig to complete the move. Despite those reinforcements, the Premier League side must trim their squad to ease financial pressure. INEOS have so far only moved Marcus Rashford on a loan to Barcelona, while Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia continue to remain in the group labelled internally as the ‘bomb squad’. These players are considered surplus to requirements, though their departures have not yet materialised.

Shaw, by contrast, has remained in the manager’s thoughts and travelled with the team to the United States for their pre-season commitments. Ruben Amorim has repeatedly praised the defender, stating that he views him as a world-class option, citing his refined touch and capacity to beat his marker. Yet reports earlier in the window suggested that the England international has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, where clubs are said to be ready to tempt him with a lucrative salary package.

Sources close to Stretty News indicate that United would contemplate selling Shaw in spite of Amorim’s compliments. At 30 years of age and with no European football on the horizon, Shaw could face a battle for minutes. The club also possess promising alternatives for the left flank, such as Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon, while Ayden Heaven is eager to secure a regular spot on the left side of the back three. Lisandro Martinez is also nearing an unexpectedly rapid return to fitness, which strengthens options in defence. United are thought to be open to cashing in if they receive a proposal of around £17 million. This figure would appeal to INEOS as it represents pure profit, given Shaw’s long tenure at Old Trafford since 2014. However, it is stressed that neither Amorim nor the board intend to push the former Southampton man out, and if he chooses to remain, he will not be forced towards the exit.

Michael Owen Praises Matheus Cunha

Former striker Michael Owen has offered glowing remarks about United’s first signing of the window, Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward elected to join the club back in May, opting for Old Trafford over a range of other admirers, before completing the switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of June. Cunha’s arrival provided Amorim with a timely boost, giving the manager the chance to integrate him during the early stages of pre-season and to plan precisely how he will fit into the system. Securing the deal was also uncomplicated compared with the acquisition of Mbeumo, as United merely activated Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause, paying Wolves a portion upfront and the remainder in instalments. This structure gave INEOS flexibility to pursue further signings.

The forward’s record last season underlined his quality, registering 17 goals in all competitions, with 15 coming in the Premier League, as well as six assists from 36 appearances. His contributions were pivotal in ensuring Wolves avoided relegation after a difficult start to the campaign. The club had extended his contract in January, which allowed them to collect a significant fee and reinvest in a replacement once United came calling.

Ahead of Cunha’s debut season in Manchester, Owen said that he believed the 26-year-old had something magical in his game. He noted that from the first moment he watched him play at Wolves, he recognised Cunha’s natural talent. He explained that he rates him highly and understood fully why United had made the move to sign him, describing the forward as extremely gifted.
