United Ready to Renew Sesko Pursuit

Manchester United are preparing to revive their long-standing interest in Benjamin Šeško, aiming to capitalise on the Slovenian striker’s desire to move to the Premier League. The 22-year-old has been expected to leave RB Leipzig this summer, and United are now considering a move after unsuccessful attempts to land Liam Delap and Viktor Gyökeres. Journalist Christopher Michel reported that the club have intensified their efforts to secure Šeško, with recruitment chief Christopher Vivell leading the push. Vivell’s previous roles at both RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig have given United an edge, thanks to his close links with the player.

Šeško has been on United’s radar since July 2022, and the club have tracked his progress as he has developed into a prolific goalscorer in the Bundesliga. With the striker reportedly seeking a move away from Leipzig, and United still searching for a reliable centre-forward, this transfer window could provide the ideal conditions for a deal to materialise. However, Leipzig’s strong negotiating position may complicate matters. The German club convinced Šeško to sign a new contract last year, tying him down until 2029. This has significantly increased his market value. Michel claims his release clause is set between £60 million and £69 million. Meanwhile, United have just committed to significant spending, agreeing deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo worth £62 million and £71 million respectively.

Rashford Nears Barcelona Switch

Marcus Rashford has completed his medical ahead of a loan move to Barcelona, as the Manchester United forward edges closer to securing a dream transfer. The 27-year-old, who rose through United’s academy to become one of the club’s standout players, had fallen out of favour following Ruben Amorim’s appointment last November. By mid-December, Rashford had been left out of the matchday squad entirely, with no appearances for the club since. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa, but despite showing glimpses of his ability, Villa chose not to activate the £40 million option to make the deal permanent. Rashford returned to Carrington this summer, but was never expected to feature in Amorim’s plans. Eager for a fresh start, the forward has secured a move to Barcelona, the club he has long admired. The agreement will see the Spanish side take him on loan while covering his full salary.

According to The Telegraph, Rashford has now passed his medical, with confirmation of the deal expected shortly. The same report notes that by moving the forward off the books, United will save £12.75 million in wages. The funds freed up from Rashford’s departure will contribute to incoming transfers, starting with Bryan Mbeumo, who is close to finalising a move from Brentford to Old Trafford.
