Sancho Awaiting Offers as United Push for Permanent Exit

Manchester United are now prepared to offload Jadon Sancho, with the winger awaiting formal offers amid revived interest from Borussia Dortmund. According to Sky Sports, United are actively expecting bids this summer and are determined to find a permanent solution following Chelsea’s decision to abandon their obligation to buy the player. The London club had the option to sign Sancho for £25 million but chose to pay a £5 million break clause instead, reportedly after attempts to renegotiate the player’s salary fell through due to his reluctance to lower his demands. With Chelsea stepping aside, both Sancho and United find themselves back at the negotiating table with few clear suitors.

Sancho, now 25, has not featured competitively for United since last August’s Community Shield, having spent the first half of the 2023/2024 season sidelined after a dispute with Erik ten Hag. A loan spell at Dortmund followed, during which he helped the German side reach the Champions League final, though they ultimately fell to Real Madrid. Despite his improved form, Dortmund are also unwilling to commit to a permanent deal at the original valuation.

United are unwilling to entertain another temporary move and are seeking a clean break, particularly with Sancho entering the final year of his contract. All parties reportedly prefer a full transfer this window, though Dortmund’s preference for a repeat of the January loan arrangement is not viewed favourably by the Premier League side.

Højlund’s Form Raises Alarm for Denmark

Rasmus Højlund’s struggles in front of goal have extended to international duty, raising concerns among the Danish national team staff. The Manchester United striker started Denmark’s friendly against Northern Ireland on Saturday but was substituted after just 66 minutes following an ineffective performance. Despite Denmark securing a 2-1 win in Copenhagen, Højlund failed to make an impact and was replaced shortly before Christian Eriksen scored the winner. Danish outlet EkstraBladet rated his performance a mere 2 out of 10, highlighting a continuation of the poor form that plagued much of his season at Old Trafford.

Denmark manager Brian Riemer addressed the forward’s difficulties post-match, suggesting that tactical issues left Højlund isolated during the first half. He said that the original plan had failed and took partial responsibility for not adjusting sooner, adding that the 22-year-old had been left without sufficient support in key areas of the pitch. Højlund has scored just seven goals in 22 appearances for the national team and ended the club season with only four Premier League goals in 32 games. Although he netted six times in the Europa League, his lack of consistency has prompted doubts over his readiness to lead the line at United.

The striker has been linked with a move away, with Inter Milan reportedly holding initial talks. Juventus and Napoli are also said to be monitoring the situation. However, Inter’s preference for a loan deal contrasts with United’s insistence on a permanent transfer, ideally involving a significant fee this summer.
