Lindelöf Poised For Premier League Stay As Contract Winds Down
With Manchester United preparing for a major summer rebuild under INEOS, player exits are expected to pave the way for new arrivals. Among those nearing the end of their Old Trafford journey is Victor Lindelöf, whose contract expires in June alongside Christian Eriksen, Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans. While Heaton and Evans, aged 38 and 37 respectively, are believed to be contemplating retirement, Lindelöf is assessing his options with considerable interest from within the Premier League. At 30, he remains the youngest of the quartet and still has years ahead of him at the top level.
According to TBR Football, Lindelöf has attracted interest from Everton and West Ham United, who lead the pursuit for his services. Brighton, Crystal Palace, and Wolves are also monitoring the situation, potentially preparing offers closer to the summer window. With his future at United all but over, the Sweden captain is expected to remain in England. Lindelöf has endured a difficult couple of seasons, with injuries limiting his impact and reducing his standing in the squad. Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival last November, the defender has featured just seven times—starting only three matches—and making 14 appearances in total across the campaign.
Nevertheless, Lindelöf remains a highly regarded figure. Teammate Harry Maguire once described him as “technically brilliant”, and his recent full 90 minutes in international duty marked a significant milestone in his recovery. With full fitness on the horizon, the Swede is eager to return to regular action and re-establish himself as a dependable presence at club level.
Rashford Revival Raises Villa Dilemma
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s loan spell at Aston Villa continues to unfold with intrigue. The Manchester United forward, who departed in January following a turbulent period that saw him sidelined from the squad, has found renewed form under Unai Emery. Rashford has registered three goals and four assists in his first 11 appearances for the Midlands outfit. Although it took seven matches to open his account, he did so emphatically—scoring a brace to seal Villa’s place in the FA Cup semi-finals. He has since added to that tally against Brighton and is expected to feature again this weekend when Villa host Nottingham Forest.
Villa, currently seventh in the Premier League and pushing for European qualification, also face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals. Rashford’s presence has bolstered their attacking options in both domestic and continental competitions. Despite his on-pitch contributions, Rashford’s long-term future at Villa Park remains uncertain. The club hold a £40 million option to make the move permanent, but his £350,000-per-week salary—secured through a 2023 contract renewal with United—poses a significant stumbling block. According to Football Insider, Rashford is open to accepting a wage reduction to remain at Villa, signaling his desire for a fresh start away from Old Trafford. With the 27-year-old recently earning a recall to the England squad under Thomas Tuchel, a permanent move could benefit both parties—provided financial terms can be reconciled.
