United Fall Short Against Arsenal on US Tour

Manchester United endured a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles, but the primary concern for Erik ten Hag will be potential injuries sustained by Rasmus Højlund and Leny Yoro. The Reds began the match aggressively, with Karl Hein called into action early on to make a couple of key saves. Højlund broke the deadlock with a skilful finish, weaving past Ayden Heaven to score from close range. He soon had another opportunity but missed the target, and it appeared he may have suffered a groin injury. Højlund signalled to the bench and was substituted by Hannibal Mejbri before heading straight down the tunnel. Despite United’s dominance, Arsenal levelled against the run of play when Gabriel Jesus scored from six yards out. The Brazilian was in an offside position, but the goal was allowed to stand, lifting Arsenal’s spirits. Shortly after, Yoro became the second United player to leave the field with an injury.

At half-time, Ten Hag made changes, but Andre Onana remained in goal. The Cameroonian had a busy evening, producing several important saves, including a notable stop against Leandro Trossard. However, he made a late error that allowed Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli to score the winner, cutting inside James Scanlon and firing a low shot inside the near post. While Arsenal claimed victory in normal time, United emerged triumphant in the penalty shootout, with Jadon Sancho converting the decisive spot-kick.

Ten Hag’s concerns were compounded by the injuries to Højlund and Yoro. The young French defender, described as ‘crestfallen’ by The Telegraph, suffered a muscle injury and was comforted by Harry Maguire, Amad Diallo, and Mejbri as he left the pitch.

Devils Closing In on Mazraoui

Manchester United are reportedly nearing their third signing of the summer, with a focus on bolstering their defensive options. While the club is expected to address the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka before finalising the acquisition of a new right-back, United have not been deterred in their pursuit of Noussair Mazraoui. West Ham’s attempt to sign the Bayern Munich full-back has fallen through, prompting United to re-engage in negotiations.

With West Ham turning their attention to Wan-Bissaka, United have seized the opportunity to secure Mazraoui. The Moroccan international is keen to reunite with former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag. If the transfer goes through, Mazraoui would join United’s contingent of former Ajax players, including Andre Onana, Antony, and Lisandro Martínez. The potential signing of Mazraoui would add depth to United’s backline and bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season.
