PSG Reject United’s Opening Bid for Ugarte
Manchester United have reportedly had their initial bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte turned down. According to L’Equipe journalist Loïc Tanzi, PSG are open to negotiations but felt United’s offer was insufficient. The Uruguay international, who joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon in a £51.1 million deal last summer, is currently unsure about his future at the French club. Ugarte, 23, is in the middle of the Copa America with his national team, while discussions about his potential departure from PSG continue behind the scenes.Reports suggest that United are keen to strengthen their midfield this summer, with Ugarte being one of several targets. Sky Sports also confirmed United’s interest in the player, signalling that the club sees him as a valuable addition to their squad for the upcoming season. However, PSG’s rejection of the initial offer indicates that negotiations could take time, especially with other clubs, including an unnamed Premier League and a Bundesliga side, showing interest in Ugarte.
While United are actively pursuing Ugarte, they also have other priorities this summer. The club is in the market for a centre-back and a striker, with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee both on their radar. However, United have already had a bid for Branthwaite rejected by Everton, who are holding out for a higher fee, and they are still contemplating whether to trigger Zirkzee’s release clause. United’s transfer dealings are being closely monitored as they look to revamp their squad ahead of the 2024-25 season. With the window set to close on August 30, the pressure is mounting to secure new signings. Whether Ugarte will make the move to Old Trafford remains to be seen, but it’s clear that United are exploring several options to bolster their ranks.
Hojlund and Eriksen Help Denmark Through To Round Of 16
Denmark may not have delivered a standout performance, but they managed to secure their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2024 after a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Serbia. Led by Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen, the Danes showed resilience as Serbia pressed hard in an attempt to break the deadlock. Eriksen, who has been a vital part of Denmark’s midfield throughout the tournament, set a new record by earning his 133rd cap for the national team. His leadership and composure were evident, though he was substituted in the final minutes of the match as Denmark sought to see out the result.
United striker Rasmus Hojlund, who has yet to score at Euro 2024, had a quieter evening. The young forward was replaced by Kasper Dolberg midway through the second half, as Denmark searched for an attacking spark. Despite their struggles in front of goal, Denmark held firm at the back, with Kasper Schmeichel rarely troubled by the Serbian attack. The match saw some disruptions, with fans throwing plastic cups onto the pitch, forcing the referee to halt play twice. However, Denmark remained composed, securing the point they needed to progress to the last 16. Looking ahead, Denmark face a daunting challenge as they prepare to take on hosts Germany in the next round.
