Three Clubs Interested in Martial

As Manchester United prepare to bid farewell to soon-to-be-free agents Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial at the end of the season, speculation is rife about their future destinations. While Varane’s next move remains uncertain, Martial could be heading back to his native France. According to Sky Sports News, Ligue 1 clubs Lyon and Marseille, alongside Turkish side Besiktas, have expressed interest in acquiring the French striker for the 2024/2025 season. Martial has been earning £250,000 per week at Old Trafford since 2022, so it remains to be seen if any of the interested parties are able or willing to meet such a salary requirement.

His recent injury problems might influence potential suitors; Martial’s last appearance for United was on December 9 in a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. He was limited to just 19 appearances across all competitions this season, with only seven of those as a starter. During Erik ten Hag’s first season in charge, Martial made 29 appearances, 17 of which were in the starting XI.

Mainoo to Focus on Euro 2024 Before New Contract

Manchester United’s emerging star Kobbie Mainoo is poised to be rewarded with a new contract following his impressive breakthrough season. However, discussions over the new deal will be put on hold until after Euro 2024. The Daily Star reports that Mainoo, 19, is set to sign a new contract with United once the European Championships conclude. Mainoo has been a standout performer in what has been a challenging season for United, highlighted by his stunning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Mainoo, alongside fellow academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho, made a significant impact in the 2024 FA Cup final, with Garnacho scoring first. Jeremy Cross notes that while Mainoo has agreed to the new deal in principle, he prefers to delay finalising negotiations until after Euro 2024, where he is already included in England’s provisional squad. England have two warm-up matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland before the tournament kicks off in Germany on June 10. Wayne Rooney has suggested that Mainoo could play a role in midfield, potentially ahead of more experienced internationals.

Devils Unsure About Chalobah

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, but they may be put off by the Blues’ asking price. The Independent initially revealed United’s interest on Thursday, and the Standard has since added that while United are keen on signing Chalobah, his £25 million valuation could lead them to explore other options. Chalobah, 24, struggled with injuries throughout last season, making just 13 Premier League appearances due to a persistent thigh problem. He missed the first half of the season before making a comeback in February, playing a significant role in Chelsea’s fixtures, where they suffered only one defeat thereafter. United will likely weigh Chalobah’s injury record carefully, as they seek to avoid another season marred by fitness issues. The club is also nearing the appointment of Arsenal’s highly-regarded physio, Jordan Reece, despite the Gunners’ reluctance to let him go.
