Everton Hold Firm On Branthwaite Valuation
Everton are resolute in their stance over Jarrad Branthwaite, maintaining a hefty asking price despite strong interest from Manchester United. The English defender, who narrowly missed out on a spot in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad, has reportedly agreed on personal terms with United, highlighting his desire to move to the prestigious club. However, Everton are determined not to lower their valuation of Branthwaite. Sources suggest that the Merseyside club is seeking between £70m and £80m for Branthwaite’s services, a figure that has put United on the back foot. United’s initial offer stands at £35m with an additional £8m in add-ons, a proposal that Everton find insufficient. According to the i newspaper, Everton are confident that United will be unable to secure Branthwaite’s signature this summer, given the current financial demands.
Everton’s firm stance is surprising, especially considering the player’s agreement to move to Old Trafford and the club’s own financial pressures. Everton are grappling with potential point deductions in the Premier League, which makes their demand even more notable. The Toffees’ insistence on a high price might be an attempt to leverage their position despite their financial woes. For Branthwaite, the situation is becoming increasingly complicated. The young defender could potentially force a transfer request to push the move through, but this might not sit well with Everton’s supporters. With a roster of centre-back targets under consideration, United may have to explore other options if they cannot meet Everton’s asking price.
Turkish Giants Eye Lindelof
Fenerbahce have initiated discussions to sign Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof, adding an intriguing twist to the summer transfer window. The Swedish defender, who missed out on a place in the Euro 2024 squad, is now the subject of interest from the Turkish giants.
Journalist Yağiz Sabuncuoğlu reports that Fenerbahce have made official contact regarding Lindelof, who has been a reliable presence for United in recent seasons. The Turkish side, recently under the management of Jose Mourinho, could see Lindelof as a valuable addition, potentially reuniting him with the manager who brought him to United in 2017 from Benfica.
During his tenure at Old Trafford, Lindelof has had a mixed experience, facing periods of uncertainty and injury crises. Nevertheless, he has been a versatile option for Erik ten Hag, filling in at both full-back positions and as a centre-back. With United’s need to streamline their squad, Lindelof’s departure could be on the cards, especially as the club looks to balance their books and bring in new talent.
United Set Their Sights On Zirkzee
Manchester United are progressing in their pursuit of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, with significant steps being taken towards securing his services. The Netherlands international, currently participating in Euro 2024, has attracted interest from various clubs, including AC Milan. However, United are reportedly confident about finalising a deal.
According to The Telegraph, United are preparing to activate Zirkzee’s £33.8million release clause, demonstrating their serious intent. Discussions with Zirkzee’s representatives are ongoing, with the 23-year-old seen as a key target to strengthen United’s attacking options.
While United’s summer budget is constrained, with only £50m available before offloading surplus players, securing Zirkzee would address a critical need. Adding another striker to complement Rasmus Hojlund could alleviate the pressure on the Danish forward and enhance the squad’s overall depth.
