Could Manchester United Secure Nico Williams?
Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Athletic Bilbao’s talented winger, Nico Williams, as they consider potential additions to their squad. Spanish outlet Sport, cited by TEAMtalk, reveals that Manchester United are among several Premier League clubs interested in the 21-year-old Spaniard. Williams, a product of Bilbao’s esteemed academy, has also attracted attention from Chelsea and Liverpool. The interest from these high-profile clubs indicates that Williams is making a significant impression with his performances. Despite being linked with a move to Aston Villa last summer, no transfer materialised. Now, Williams might be poised to join one of the Premier League’s elite teams. However, the report indicates that Williams has a preference to remain in Spain, which could complicate any move abroad. Bilbao fans are known for their deep attachment to their players, given the club’s unique identity of only recruiting Basque talent.
This season, Williams has made 30 appearances for Bilbao, netting six goals and providing 14 assists. His performance underscores his potential value in the transfer market. A transfer fee of around £40 million could represent good value for United. Williams, who excels on the right wing, could complement Alejandro Garnacho on the left, potentially enhancing United’s attacking options. Much will depend on Marcus Rashford’s future, but it’s anticipated that he will remain at the club. Meanwhile, Antony’s future is less certain, as he continues to adjust to life at United. Should Antony be sold, Williams could be a fitting replacement. Still, Basque players are known for their loyalty to Athletic and this will not be an easy move to pull off.
Napoli Eye Kambwala As Min-Jae Successor
In an unexpected development, Willy Kambwala has emerged as a target for Napoli ahead of the summer transfer window. Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, are seeking a robust centre-back to fill the void left by Kim Min-jae, who moved to Bayern Munich for £43 million last July. Min-jae was pivotal in Napoli’s Scudetto-winning season, and his departure has left a noticeable gap in their defence. Napoli currently sit seventh in Serie A, significantly trailing leaders Inter Milan, and have conceded 38 goals in 31 matches—well above last season’s total of 28 goals conceded in 38 games. According to Italian outlet Dot Sport, Napoli are keen to bring in Kambwala as a potential replacement. The club’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, is reportedly interested in negotiating with Manchester United for the young defender. However, United’s strong impression of Kambwala’s performances might lead them to offer him a substantial contract to secure his future at Old Trafford. Given Kambwala’s recent contributions and his role in covering for senior defenders, it seems unlikely that United would agree to a permanent transfer. A loan move might be discussed, but considering Kambwala’s importance to the squad this season, even a temporary departure seems improbable. United’s priority is likely to be securing Kambwala’s long-term commitment rather than facilitating his exit.
