Garnacho Shines In First Argentina Start

Alejandro Garnacho impressed on his first start for Argentina in their 3-1 victory over Costa Rica. Prior to this game, Garnacho had made four substitute appearances for the national team, but this match marked his debut as a starter. Argentina, who trailed after Costa Rica took the lead in the 34th minute, rallied with second-half goals from Ángel Di María, Alexis Mac Allister, and Lautaro Martínez to secure the win. Garnacho was a key figure on the left wing, playing 71 minutes before being substituted for Martínez of Inter Milan. Despite being closely guarded by the Costa Rican defence, the United starlet delivered a solid performance, according to TyC Sports. During his time on the pitch, Garnacho made two shots, touched the ball 57 times, and contributed two key passes and one cross. His debut came during a busy period for United players, with Kobbie Mainoo also earning his first international start for England during the same international break. Garnacho first appeared for Argentina during their tour of Asia and Oceania in June 2023, in a 2-0 victory over Australia in China. The promising display against Costa Rica further underscores his potential and bodes well for his future with both Argentina and Manchester United.

United’s Transfer Priorities Under Ratcliffe’s Ownership

As Manchester United prepares for their first transfer window under the ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS group, the speculation about squad reinforcements intensifies. With the season approaching its climax, Erik ten Hag’s plans for next term are becoming a focal point, assuming he remains at the helm. Ratcliffe, following the Premier League’s approval of his minority stake, has outlined his ambitions to challenge the dominance of Liverpool and Manchester City. To achieve this, significant squad improvements will be necessary. The Telegraph has highlighted that a new centre-back is a top priority for United. This need has become even more pressing given the injury issues plaguing the current defensive lineup, and with Jonny Evans and Raphaël Varane set to leave when their contracts expire in June. Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton has been frequently mentioned as a potential target. However, United’s pursuit of Branthwaite may depend on whether Everton secures Premier League survival, as a relegation could lead to the sale of key players, including the highly valued Englishman. In addition to a centre-back, United may seek to bolster other areas of the squad. If Casemiro decides to move on, a new midfielder will be on the agenda. Furthermore, a new striker could be brought in to ease the goalscoring responsibilities of Rasmus Højlund. Interestingly, United are also reportedly in the market for right-backs despite Diogo Dalot’s strong performances this season. The long-term injury issues faced by Aaron Wan-Bissaka have prompted this search, highlighting the ongoing need for depth and versatility in the squad.
