Pellistri Set For New Loan Spell
Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri could be heading out on loan again, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that talks between United and Granada are ongoing. The Uruguayan has been the subject of interest from several clubs, including PSV Eindhoven and LA Galaxy, but it appears that Pellistri has given his approval to a move to Granada. According to Romano, negotiations are progressing, with Pellistri seeking more consistent playing time elsewhere. Should the deal go through, he would join a growing list of players leaving Old Trafford on temporary deals in January, following in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, and Hannibal Mejbri.
This season, the 22-year-old has struggled for minutes at United, making 14 appearances across all competitions but accumulating just 366 minutes of game time. Of those appearances, only three have been as a starter, leading the player and club to explore opportunities for him to gain more experience at a different club.
Reguilon Nearing Another Premier League Loan Move
Sergio Reguilon is close to securing another loan move after returning to Tottenham Hotspur in January. The Spanish left-back spent the first half of the season on loan at Manchester United, but his time at Old Trafford was cut short when United activated a break clause in his loan agreement. The decision to recall Reguilon was made with the expectation that Luke Shaw would be fit for United’s upcoming fixtures. However, Shaw was absent from the squad for both the FA Cup victory over Wigan Athletic and the subsequent Premier League draw with Spurs, raising questions about his availability.
Complicating matters further is Tyrell Malacia’s ongoing recovery from injury. The Dutch left-back has yet to feature this season after sustaining a setback during rehabilitation following an injury he suffered at the end of the previous campaign. His absence has left United short on options at left-back, though Reguilon’s departure suggests the club is confident in Shaw’s return to fitness soon.
Manchester United To Face Newport County
Non-league side Eastleigh’s FA Cup dream came to an end in freezing conditions, as Newport County set up a fourth-round clash with Manchester United in two weeks’ time. Eastleigh had battled to a 1-1 draw against League Two’s Newport in their third-round tie, earning a replay and the opportunity to welcome Newport to their Silverlake Stadium with the incentive of facing United in the next round. However, Newport secured their place in the fourth round with a 3-1 victory, ending Eastleigh’s hopes of a glamour tie against the Premier League giants. Despite the disappointment, Eastleigh can take pride in their FA Cup journey, which saw them come within touching distance of a marquee match against Manchester United.
Currently sitting 17th in League Two, Newport’s manager Graham Coughlan has been quick to downplay the excitement surrounding their forthcoming tie against United. Nonetheless, the fixture represents a significant opportunity for his side to test themselves against top-tier opposition on one of English football’s grandest stages.
