Man United to Open Contract Talks with Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United are preparing to open discussions over a new contract for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Just a year ago, Wan-Bissaka’s future at the club appeared uncertain, with his performances failing to impress, and manager Erik ten Hag seemingly favouring Diogo Dalot for the role. However, Wan-Bissaka has since turned things around and now features regularly in Ten Hag’s starting lineup. The 25-year-old’s current contract, signed in 2019, is in its final year, although the club holds an option to extend it for another season.

According to a report by The Telegraph, United have already initiated talks to extend Wan-Bissaka’s stay, with discussions taking place over the last month. This development is seen as a reward for his marked improvement under Ten Hag. While Wan-Bissaka has shown considerable progress, Ten Hag is still believed to want further reinforcements at right-back, particularly a player more comfortable receiving the ball under pressure. Nevertheless, Wan-Bissaka has shown solid defensive performances this season, and his form has merited the contract extension talks. Many now consider him a better starting option than Dalot.

Manchester United Statement on Antony Allegations

Manchester United have issued a statement addressing domestic abuse allegations against Brazilian winger Antony, following significant media attention after the Brazil national team dropped him from the squad. The allegations were made by Antony’s former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin. Unlike in the case of Mason Greenwood, who faced similar accusations, Antony has swiftly denied the claims. In light of the situation, the club released an official statement.

“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries,” the statement read. “Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments.”

The club also emphasised its commitment to taking the matter seriously, particularly considering the potential impact on survivors of abuse. United had previously faced widespread criticism for their handling of the Greenwood case, which led to the club’s decision not to reintegrate the striker into the first-team. Greenwood was ultimately loaned to Getafe, with expectations that he will not return to play for United. Antony will now be hoping to resolve the matter quickly, before it significantly affects his career.

Hojlund Nominated for Kopa Trophy

Rasmus Hojlund has been shortlisted for the prestigious Kopa Trophy, which recognises the world’s best player under 21. The Manchester United forward joins a group of elite young footballers, including Jude Bellingham, Gavi, Jamal Musiala, Eduardo Camavinga, and Pedri. The Danish international is the only Premier League player among the 10 nominees, which also includes Xavi Simons, Alejandro Balde, Antonio Silva, and Elye Wahi. Hojlund, who joined United from Atalanta in a £72 million deal earlier this summer, has made an instant impact since his move. A back injury delayed his United debut, which eventually came during the club’s clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Although he is yet to make his first start for the Red Devils, Hojlund’s nomination highlights his potential as one of the brightest young talents in world football.
