Tahith Chong might have decided what he is going to do in his future. But apparently, he is not keen to extend his tenure at Old Trafford.
According to a recent report from the Manchester Evening News, the Dutch youngster has rejected a potential contract extension with The Red Devils. Chong has been linked with a move to Juventus, per reports,. And he apparently wants to exploit the possibility of joining the reigning Serie A champions.
It’s unclear why Chong has decided against extending his tenure at Old Trafford. However, some of that might be due to his lack of playing time in recent weeks. The Dutch youngster was a part of the bench earlier in the season. But Chong has struggled to see playing time with the first-team squad in recent weeks.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must have his reasons to decide against playing Chong, though. The 19-year-old received plenty of chances earlier this season, but wasn’t able to perform as expected. He struggled in UEFA Europa League matches against FK Astana and AZ Alkmaar, while looking quite poor against Rochdale. That performance in the Carabao Cup might have sealed his short-term future with the senior squad for the time being.
Chong is yet to play in the Premier League since October 6th. That time, he came off the bench and played four minutes against Newcastle United.
The Netherlands U21 international has looked impressive in the Premier League 2. though. He has four goals and two assists in three PL2 appearances. It’s easy to understand why Juventus have posed their sights on Chong. And the fact that he doesn’t want to extend his Old Trafford tenure should boost Juventus’ chances of signing the talented winger.
