Manchester United U21 Will Discover EFL Trophy Rivals On Saturday

Manchester United senior squad might be resting during the international break. However, there are still news regarding the club’s Academy. This time, we will focus on Manchester United’s U21 side.

The Young Red Devils are currently playing in the EFL Trophy, known as the Leasing.com Trophy due to sponsorship rules. And following the 2-1 win over Doncaster last month, now Neil Wood’s men will have to wait to know which side they will face in the upcoming round.

Due to the continued regionalisation of the tournament, Manchester United already know which side they might face in the Round of 16. It will be one of Scunthorpe United, Fleetwood Town, Tranmere Rovers or Shrewsbury Town. Plus, United will play on the road since that “will help further the youngsters’ education”.

Manchester United are in the northern section of the tournament. They currently sit in Winners’ Section Draw B, alongside teams such as Manchester City and Everton U21 sides, and Blackpool.

What are the rules of the tournament going forward?

There are 32 teams left in the hunt for a place at Wembley in the final. That match will be played on Sunday 5 April 2020. The knockout ties are scheduled to be played in the week commencing 2 December.

Manchester United ended the group stage with a perfect record of three wins in three matches. They defeated Rotherham 2-0, Lincoln City 1-0, and Doncaster Rovers 2-1.

Some of the notable players that have been featuring for The Red Devils in this tournament include Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and James Garner, just to name a few.
