Scouting Next Man United Opposition: Norwich’s New Worries

Manchester United have ended one of their bad streaks this Thursday, as they have won a match away from home for the first time since early March and now they could go the other way and making two wins in a row outside of Old Trafford, all inside of the same week.

The Devils will be travelling to Norwich to meet with one of the newly-promoted sides who have many interesting traits to look out for, but one that has been a visibly vulnerable.

Once they had problems in the Championship. Now that they are back in top-flight, they have some new ones.

How Did Fare Do So Far?

After the opening nine matches, Norwich have seven points. They won twice and drew once, losing the remaining six matches. Most notably, they beat Manchester City 3-2 at their Carrow Road and that should be a big lesson to every team in the league, not just Man United ahead of this match. The other team they have beaten are Newcastle United.

They drew against Bournemouth, losing against teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Burnley, Crystal Palace and West Ham.

They Kept Their Style

What is important to know about this Norwich City style is that they have kept the style they have used in Championship last season. That is one thing that Daniel Farke has been known for so far in the league, as the German manager did not want to make Norwich a completely different side.

His players are still getting the ball out of the back, pressing high up the pitch and creating neat passing sequences that we have even seen against Liverpool on the opening day of the season. The thing is that that is not working as well as last season, as the club did not bring in any hugely notable signings during the summer.

Goalscoring Woes Have Started

There was this notion of Norwich being a team that will keep scoring goals in the Premier League the way they did last year and the big question was could they improve their defence drastically so that they can stay up. However, in the past month or so, it is exactly Norwich’s attack that has dried up.

They have scored just one goal in the last four matches and even that one came in a 1-5 home loss to Aston Villa. Burnley, Palace and Bournemouth were the other three opponents in this run.

All About Pukki And Buendia

Obviously, Teemu Pukki is team’s biggest star, but now he is also without a goal for some time. However, this season he already contributed five goals against the three top six sides Norwich have faced. The Finnish striker has been hugely important for them, but it is him and Emiliano Buendia who are running all the things in this team.

Pukki’s six goals and two assists have been spectacular, but Buendia also added four assists. These two are the main creative hubs at Norwich, even though Pukki is not doing much work in the buildup. If Manchester United manage to stop two of them, they will be halfway to victory.
