Manchester United might be coming off a 2-0 win over Everton, but there is no question the team needs reinforcements. Especially if we consider the lack of depth the team might have on the attacking end. Or rather, the poor form of several players.
Elements such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have not been playing very well in recent weeks. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku are down due to injuries. And Jesse Lingard does not play as a winger anymore, since he has been playing on a central role over the past few months. In short – the team needs depth on the wings. And one option that could be available is PSG’s Lucas Moura.
The Brazilian has barely played this season. However, this was something any football fan saw coming. The presence of players such as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria has relegated the former Sao Paulo star to a secondary role. By all accounts, it is believed that the 25-year-old will try to leave PSG during the upcoming January transfer window.
That’s where Manchester United comes in. According to several outlets, Jose Mourinho wants to bolster the team’s creativity, and Lucas certainly fits the ball. He is a young player with upside, and has the mixture of both creativity and pace to unsettle even the tighest defence in the Premier League. His game is tailor-made for the EPL, and there is no question he would fit perfectly at Manchester United. He would represent a slight upgrade over Juan Mata, while allowing the Spaniard to have another chance at playing on his natural n° 10 role.
There has not been much of a contact between both parties. However, United are willing to start negotiations with PSG over the next few days. They are keen to acquire Lucas, and the Brazilian wants to play elsewhere in order to bolster his chances of playing in the World Cup later this year.
By all accounts, this looks like a match made in heaven. Now we must wait to see whether United decide to pull the trigger on Lucas or not. But if the recent reports are true, then we might be on the verge of a potential deal soon. As such, do not be surprised if the Brazilian becomes United’s first signing of the January transfer window. And that might happen sooner than later.
