Manchester United have several midfielders capable of starting in the first-team squad this season. Aside from the trio of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jose Mourinho has several quality options on the bench.
There is Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, and Ander Herrera for the central midfielder role. Juan Mata can play as an attacking midfielder as well. And according to a report from Kicker, there is a chance the group grows in the near future, as Marek Hamsik said he would “contemplate” a switch to Manchester United if the chance appeared.
Hamsik has hinted that he may consider joining a club like The Red Devils in the future, although he says he is not currently giving any real thought to a transfer. The 28-year-old Napoli star has been with the Italian club for an entire decade, and is on the verge of making history since he is just two goals away from equalling the club record of 115 scored by Diego Maradona.
And while the Slovakia international has not previously given any indication that he would consider playing for anybody else, he revealed to Kicker that he would contemplate a switch to United.
“That’s hard to say. It would definitely be the hardest decision in my career. Maybe everyone wants to play at these clubs, but I can’t answer that. I think that Napoli are one of the top 10 European teams in terms of game play and performance. As a footballer, it’s hard because you never know what comes next. I’ve still got a long time to go on my contract and I cannot see into the future. I’m not thinking about leaving Naples.”
For what is worth, Hamsik has had chances of leaving in the past. However, he turned down approaches from both AC Milan and Juventus because “he did not feel ready” for them. Would he be ready now, considering he has spent his entire career in one club?
Granted, he did not indicate he would just accept an offer from United. But there is no doubt he would at least entertain the possibility. And if we consider Hamsik is one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world, any top team would welcome him. Especially United, since his game is almost tailor-made for the English Premier League. He would give United a goal-scoring presence from midfield, but at the same time he thrives defensively. The sole idea of Hamsik playing alongside Matic and Pogba is fantastic.
For that to happen, the Slovakian star needs to leave Napoli. There is no certainity of that happening any time soon. But he left the door open to United. Now the club needs to move if they want to acquire him, and there is no doubt he would be an excellent signing.
Your move, Jose.
