As the squad prepares for tomorrow’s match against Chivas, the press has come to near standstill for United news. We do have on big piece of news, though; that being that a young duo will remain with the club to serve as backup to Wayne Rooney. Also, Antonio Valencia is set to be fit by the start of the season and a former United star declines a move back to the Premier League.

Kiko and Chicharito to ease Rooney’s burden – The Guardian

Exactly the kind of news I had been hoping to read. For months we’ve heard Kiko’s agent insist the Italian striker was going nowhere, but now Sir Alex has confirmed it. New-signing Javier Hernandez will also be involved in plans this season with the gaffer planning to use the young strikers as relief for Wayne Rooney. There is no hiding our over-reliance on Rooney last season, but Kiko and Chicharito have shown a lethal eye for goal and I think they could relieve some of that pressure. Sir Alex also confirmed the Gabriel Obertan will be sidelined for a few weeks with an injury he picked up against the MLS All-Stars.

Valencia is a fit of alright – The Sun

If this wasn’t such a slow night for news, I wouldn’t have even included this. We reported in an earlier edition of Stretty Stories that Valencia had resumed practice, and The Sun is just now confirming his fitness. Way to be on top of things…

Becks confirms he is not joining West Ham – The Daily Mirror

I’m a huge fan of David Beckham; he’s the reason I fell in love with United. He continues to impress me by showing his loyalty to the club and refusing to join any rival Premier League club. I’ve never had too much of a problem with former players lining up against us. It’s mostly either hatred (Carlos Tevez) or indifference that I feel for these players, but in Beckham’s case I’d be truly heartbroken to see him play against United in the Premier League. It was weird enough when he played against us for AC Milan, so let’s not make it a more common occurrence.
