Van de Beek Set to Stay Until January
Donny van de Beek is unlikely to make a move before the January transfer window at the earliest. Despite the Premier League transfer window closing before the latest round of fixtures, the Dutch midfielder has attracted interest from Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
Van de Beek has not started a competitive match for Manchester United since January and it appears Erik ten Hag no longer rates him as highly as he did during their time at Ajax. With the Turkish transfer window closing on Friday, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Van de Beek is expected to remain at Old Trafford for the first half of the season. His reluctance to move to Turkey has played a role in this outcome.
Since his £39 million transfer from Ajax in 2020, Van de Beek has been a disappointing signing for United. He has made only 60 first-team appearances, contributing two goals and two assists. Romano also mentioned that Van de Beek was close to joining Real Sociedad, but United withdrew from the deal, possibly due to financial constraints on La Real’s part, even for a loan move.
United Reluctant to Loan Out Hannibal
Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been in the spotlight following Tunisia’s victory over Egypt, but he is now a target for Turkish club Besiktas. According to Turkish publication Fanatik, Besiktas manager Senol Gunes has requested a No. 10 and has until Friday’s transfer deadline to secure one.
United are hesitant to let Hannibal go on loan, as Erik ten Hag’s squad is already thin in midfield. Despite the possibility of Donny van de Beek staying, it is believed that Hannibal should be given Premier League minutes over the Dutchman.
Hannibal spent last season on loan at Birmingham City, where he made 21 appearances, scoring one goal and providing five assists. Besiktas have expressed interest and made contact with United, initially proposing a loan deal with a purchase option, which was rejected. They have since returned with an offer for a dry loan, but United are still reluctant to let Hannibal depart.
The publication suggests that Ten Hag has yet to make a definitive decision on Hannibal’s future. If no agreement is reached by the deadline, it is expected that Hannibal will remain at United for the first half of the season. Staying at Old Trafford could still be beneficial for the young talent’s development.
